Obituary – Carol Wortman

Carol Wortman, 69, of Shannon City, died Tuesday, July 14, 2026, at her home near Shannon City surrounded by her family. Celebration of Life Services will be at 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday, July 21, 2026, at Powers Funeral Home in Creston. Pastor Jodi Rushing will officiate. Family requests casual dress. Burial will be in Union Mortimer Cemetery in rural Ringold County. Open visitation will be 2-7 p.m. Monday, July 20, 2026, with family receiving friends from 5-7:00 p.m. at Powers Funeral Home in Creston. Memorials are to either the Diagonal Community Building or the Diagonal Printing Museum. Online Condolences can be left at www.powersfh.com.
Carol Jean (Stark) Wortman, daughter of Donald “Sandy” Dwight Stark and Nina Lulu (Horney) Stark was born on March 11, 1957, in Leon, IA. She graduated from Grand Valley High School in 1975. She met Roger Wortman in Creston in 1984. On February 14, 1986, Carol was united in marriage to Roger Lee Wortman, in Osceola, and they settled in rural Shannon City. Carol worked at Bunn-O- Matic, starting on the production line and working her way to being a supervisor in various departments, and retired in March of 2013 after 30 plus years of service. Carol was a member of the Grand River Historical Association.
Carol is survived by her husband, Roger Wortman of Shannon City; her children, Jason (wife Andrea) Wortman of Diagonal, Ryan Wortman of Diagonal and Janel Wortman of Minneapolis, Minn; her brother Kevin Stark of Casper, Wyo.; her sister Cathy Turner of Casper, Wyo. and two grandchildren Aiden and Owen; sister-in-law, Beverly (husband Marland) Gammon of Council Bluffs, Ia.; brother-in-law Carl Hines of Allendale, Mo. and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Keith and Darin Stark, her in-laws, Reed Wortman and Rosella Wortman, sister-in-law, Joan Larson, brother-in-law, Merritt Wortman, sister-in-law Valerie Hines and family friends Pete and Veva Vorhies.
