FAYE LUCILLE SIPLE

    Faye Lucille Siple passed away Tuesday, July 10, 2012, at Clearview Home in Mount Ayr, Iowa. The daughter of Louis and Bessie Smith Siple, Lucille was born in Ellston, Iowa on August 4, 1918. She attended school in Kellerton through fourth grade and graduated from Mount Ayr high school in 1935. Lucille excelled at declamatory and public speaking, participating and winning many local and regional events. She enjoyed high school drama and was female lead in her junior and senior class plays, as well as the all high school play in 1935.
    Upon graduation, Lucille began working for the Ringgold County Mutual Telephone Company as an operator in the days of manual switchboards, crank-handle telephones and party lines. She retired from the Continental Telephone Company in 1982 as the manager of the Mount Ayr toll office.
    Lucille’s zest for life was evident in all that she did. She faithfully followed Iowa football and basketball and attended many memorable games at Kinnick Stadium and Carver-Hawkeye arena. Her nephews and nieces looked upon her as another parental figure and role model in their lives. She is remembered by them as a bird and nature lover, family historian, photographer, avid reader, letter writer and a caretaker of family, friends and neighbors.
    Lucille was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Louise Ballou; brother-in-law, Leslie Ballou; nephew, Duane Ballou; two infant nieces, and infant grand-nephew.
    She is survived by Duane’s widow, Millie Ballou; her nephew, Monte (Pat) Ballou; grandnieces, Mary Ballou of Springfield, Oregon, Becky Ballou of Austin, Texas, Laurie Ballou Scott of London, England and Linda (Jeff Fahrenwald) Ballou of Rockford, Illinois; grandnephews, Mark and Matt Ballou of Pella, Iowa; great-grandnieces, Jacki and Kelli Ballou of Colorado Springs, Colorado, and great-grandnephew, Andy Ballou Fahrenwald of Rockford, Illinois. Memorials are to HCI Care Services in Mount Ayr and the Mount Ayr Public Library.
    Services were held at Watson-Armstrong Funeral Home in Mount Ayr on Saturday, July 14, 2012, with Rev. Terry Roberts officiating. Musicians were Nancy Sackett and Rev. Terry Roberts.
    Casket bearers included Mark Ballou, Matt Ballou, Pat Ballou, Monte Ballou, Linda Ballou and Jeff Fahrenwald.
    Burial was in the Hopeville Cemetery in Hopeville, Iowa.
