OCIE LAVETA STRANGE

    Ocie Laveta Strange was born February 12, 1918 at the tin house east of Benton, Iowa to Floyd and Ocie Miller Schlapia. She passed away July 17, 2012 at the age of 94 years, five months, and five days at Greater Regional Hospice Home in Creston, Iowa.
    Laveta was married to Walter Eldon Strange on March 17, 1941 at Gallatin, Missouri. To this union were born one son, Eldon, and one daughter, Nancy. She spent most of her life in Ringgold county.
    She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Walter in 1987; brothers, Russell and Dale Schlapia, and sisters, Thelma Schlapia and Fay Mathers.
    Laveta is survived by her son, Eldon Strange and wife Kay of Urbandale, Iowa; her daughter, Nancy Parker and husband Larry of Creston, Iowa; three grandchildren, Sandra Schueller and husband Brian of Waukee, Iowa, Chad Parker and wife Chrissy of Johnston, Iowa and Michael Strange and wife Marcia of Marshall, Michigan; four great-grandchildren, Brooklyn Parker, Addisyn and Alexa Schueller and Andrew Strange; sister, Kay Dotson and husband Lee of Phoenix, Arizona; two sisters-in-law, Marilyn Schlapia of Mount Ayr, Iowa and Mary Lou Schlapia of Boulder, Colorado; brother-in-law, Dale Mathers of Silver City, New Mexico, along with several nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
    A memorial fund has been established to Greater Regional Hospice Home in Creston. Arrangements were by Watson-Armstrong Funeral Home in Diagonal, Iowa.
    Services were held at the United Church of Diagonal in Diagonal on Saturday, July 21, 2012, with Rev. Edward Shields and Rev. Eydie Stephens officiating. Musicians were Nancy Sackett, Mary Davenport and Margaret Bickers.
    Casket bearers included Chad Parker, Michael Strange, Brian Schueller, Marion Hansell, Paul McKinney and Art Garrett.
    Burial was in the Diagonal Cemetery in Diagonal.
