GERALD DAVID ZOLLER

    Gerald David Zoller, son of William F. and Carrie Lee (Lindsay) Zoller, was born at home on September 23, 1919 in rural Columbus, Illinois.
    The family moved to southwest Iowa and settled in the Sharpsburg area in 1936. In 1942, his parents purchased a farm southeast of Clearfield, Iowa where he lived and farmed.
    On August 12, 1941, Gerald entered the US Army Air Corp. He received his schooling at Chanute Air Base in Chanute, Illinois. He spent the majority of his service time in Texas with the 529th Fighter Squad. On January 29, 1946, he was honorably discharged and returned to his farm.
    Gerald was a 67-year member of Woodside Post #97 in Clearfield; lifetime member of the V.F.W., and member of the Farm Bureau.
    Gerald passed away August 22, 2012 at Mercy Hospital Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa.      Gerald is survived by cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents.
    A memorial fund has been established to the Clearfield Library and the Clearfield Fire Department.
    Funeral services were held on Saturday, August 25 at the Watson-Armstrong Funeral Home in Clearfield with Reverend Alan Rusk officiating. Songs were ‘Amazing Grace’ and ‘God Bless America.’
Military rites were provided by the Woodside Post #97 American Legion. Burial was in Greenmount Cemetery in Quincy, Illinois.
