DOYLE VERN KONOPASEK

Doyle Vern Konopasek was born May 5, 1932 in Neligh, Nebraska to Frand Anton and Lottie Fern (Gatenby) Konopasek. He was called home on October 13, 2012 at the Winterset Care Center North Alzheimer’s Unit.

Doyle’s family moved to Lamoni, Iowa when he was a young boy and he graduated from Lamoni high school in 1951. He met Joan Hope Grannaman while living there and they were united in marriage on October 28, 1951. To this union they were blessed with four children, Linda, Glen, Jeannie and Betty.

After their marriage, he was the assistant manager for the Lamoni Coop for three years. He decided to start farming in Eagleville, Missouri until he and Joan bought the Kellerton Locker in 1968. During the 30 years of him owning the locker, he belonged to the Kellerton Fire Department for 18 years, Lions Club for four years, mayor of Kellerton for six years and three years as night marshall. Doyle enjoyed spending his time with family and friends along with camping, fishing, playing cribbage and making sure his garden was perfect.

Doyle was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Dalen and Leroy Konopasek, and mother and father-in-law, Walter and Alberta May Hughes.

Doyle is survived by his wife, Joan Konopasek of Kellerton, Iowa; children, Linda and David Dunn of Red Oak, Iowa, Glen Konopasek of Marshalltown, Iowa, Jeannie and Marvin Hultquist of Big Cabin, Oklahoma and Betty Gage and Leroy Lee of Ottawa, Kansas; 14 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; sister, Leona Grass of Tekamah, Nebraska; brother, Larry and Joann Konopasek of Warsaw, Missouri, and many nieces, nephews and friends.

A memorial fund has been established to the Winterset Care Center North and Care Initiatives Hospice.

Services were conducted at Watson-Armstrong Funeral Home in Mount Ayr on Tuesday, October 16, 2012, with Pastor Matthew Novotny officiating. Musical selections were ‘Grandpa,’ ‘Daddy’s Hands,’ ‘Beyond the Sunset’ and ‘Go Rest High On That Mountain.’

Casket bearers included Shane Smith, Tyler Gage, Fermin Romero, Daniel Rehmeyer, D.J. Dunn and Bronson Konopasek.

Honorary pallbearers were Burt Hutchcroft, Russell Smith, Rod Reed, Mike Stark and Rich Hensley.

Doyle was laid at rest in the Maple Row Cemetery in Kellerton.
