May Luella Pearce was born in Kellerton, Iowa to Charles Henry Pearce and Elsie Mary Brooner Pearce on May 11, 1921. May passed away peacefully surrounded by family on December 3, 2012.

She was united in marriage to Francis Wallace Leeper on May 23, 1941 in Bethany, Missouri. To this union four children were born, Kay, Carl, Lois Jean and Mary Jane.

May was a stay-at-home mom who raised their children and helped Francis on the farm. She was a talented artist who painted for many years, gracing her family’s homes and the homes of many others with her lovely pictures.

Preceding her in death were her parents, Charles and Elsie Pearce; her husband of 71 years, Francis; two daughters, Lois Jean Petratis and Mary Jane Hayward; one grandchild, Toni Shea Meseck; one great-grandchild, Jeremiah Meseck, and one sister, Mary Ellen Mead.

Survivors include her daughter, Kay Moore, and son, Carl and wife Connie Leeper, all of Des Moines, Iowa; son-in-law, Melvin Hayward of Milo, Iowa; 11 grandchildren, Karen (Phil) Ackerman, Doug Albaugh, Tina (Darrell) Onken, Tammy Moore, Roger (Sue) Hayward, Kim (Bruce) Jensen, LaRita (David) Arterburn, Lea Anne King, Stephanie (Randy) Sledge, Gary (Jenny) Albaugh and Heather (Matt) Albaugh-Cornelison; many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; one brother Jimmie (Arlene) Pearce; two sisters, Betty Pearce Scott and Edna Pearce Scott; one brother-in-law, Dwayne Mead, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Memorial contributions can be made to Iowa Hospice.

Services were conducted at Watson-Armstrong Funeral Home in Mount Ayr on Friday, December 7, 2012, with Rev. Jody Maxfield officiating. Recorded musical selections included ‘In The Garden’ and ‘Angels Among Us.’

Pallbearers were Doug Albaugh, Roger Hayward, Gary Albaugh, David Arterburn, Randy Sledge and Matt Cornelison.

Honorary pallbearers included Phil Ackerman, Darrell Onken and Bruce Jensen.

Interment was in the Maple Row Cemetery in Kellerton.
