LOIS ARLENE NEWBY

Lois Arlene Newby, daughter of Edgar and Neva (Milligan) Harris, was born August 3, 1936 at Siam, in Taylor county, Iowa. Lois grew up with one brother and four sisters in Taylor county. When Lois was 16, she met and fell in love with Willis Gene Newby. They were married on December 20, 1952 in Bedford, Iowa. They lived for a short time at Glenwood, Iowa and returned to Taylor county before moving to Benton, Iowa and eventually to Mount Ayr in 1971.
Lois was a loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Lois enjoyed visiting and loved to have company. She was a good cook who enjoyed serving it up whenever you came in her house. Lois worked at the Mount Ayr school, CAP Factory in Mount Ayr and babysat.
Lois fought a courageous battle with cancer and was lovingly cared for by her family in Debbie’s home in Winterset. Lois passed away on September 1, 2013.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Willis, on February 15, 2003; infant son, Roger Leroy Newby; infant granddaughter, Mindy Clark; three sisters, Evelyn Schrodt, Dorothy Whitfield and Trula Schrodt, and one brother, Robert Harris.
Those left to cherish her memory include her children, Patty Newby of Shenandoah, Iowa, Kenny (Donna) Newby of Salt Lake City, Utah, Sandra (Mike) Clark of Winterset, Iowa, Sue (Kent) Jehle of North Liberty, Iowa, Debbie (J.R.) Tresten of Winterset, Iowa and Diana (Shannon) Arends of Diagonal, Iowa; 18 grandchildren, Stacey Newby, Kendall (Arsene) Kangni, Kelsie Newby, Jessica (Chuck) Galaviz, Melissa Clark, Kimmie Clark, Ben Schuelke, Jenny Schuelke, Amy (Wes) Dorsam, Jennifer (Duane) Grimes, Amber (Mark) Meador, Tyler (Leslie) Newby, Derrick (Kasey) Dredge, Sarah (Bobby) Schafer, Breann Arends, Logan Arends, Baylee Arends and Hunter Arends; 11 great-grandchildren; one sister, Anna May McMillin of Clarinda, Iowa; nieces; nephews, and other relatives and friends.
A visitation will be held at Watson-Armstrong Funeral Home in Mount Ayr on Thursday, September 5, from 6 to 8 p.m. with funeral services 10 a.m. Friday at the Mount Ayr United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in the Bedford City Cemetery in Bedford, Iowa. Casket bearers are Ben Schuelke, Logan Arends, Tyler Newby, Derrick Dredge, Bobby Schafer and Alan Schrodt. Honorary pallbearers are Hunter Arends and Dan Sheil.
A memorial fund has been established for Middle River Hospice in Winterset, Iowa and the American Cancer Society.
