MARVIN R. “WIGG” BOYER

    Marvin R. “Wigg” Boyer, son of James Garfield and Grace May (Dunn) Boyer, was born November 30, 1917 at Sharpsburg, Iowa. He grew up at Sharpsburg and graduated from Sharpsburg high school.
    Wigg met his life mate, Betty C. Beemer, at a Lenox, Iowa cafe. They were married at Bedford, Iowa on October 1, 1940 with Betty’s sister, Joyce Beemer, and Monson Shaver attendants.
    Wigg served in the U.S. Army during World War II. Their first child, Sherry Lynn, was born in 1943 while Wigg was at Attu Island. After Wigg’s discharge, they lived at Lenox, Iowa, moving to Clearfield in 1950 for Wigg’s employment. A son, Douglas Bryce, was born in 1947 in Clearfield. Wigg retired as manager of M.F.A. in Clearfield after 30 years. He was very active in the Clearfield Christian Church, where he served as an elder. Wigg was a former mayor of Clearfield and was a member of Woodside Post #97, American Legion, in Clearfield.
    Wigg passed away at his home on October 6, 2013. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Betty Boyer on December 7, 2011; a daughter at birth, Mary Ann; parents-in-law, Sim and Mary Beemer; siblings, Velva Boyer, Lela (Charles) Wiand, June (Charles) Rupert, Teddy (Freda and Audrey) Boyer and Willard (Claudine) Boyer; brothers-in-law, Bryce Beemer, Dale Beemer and Virgil Beemer; sister-in-law, Beth Beemer; son-in-law, Kenny Bolinger; grandson-in-law, Phillip Kirby, and great-grandchildren Kasey and Kerry Kirby.
    Survivors include his daughter, Sherry Bolinger of Clearfield, Iowa; son, Doug (Deb) Boyer of Clearfield, Iowa; foster sons, Kenny and Joey Johnson; grandchildren, Kathy Kirby, Karole (Barry) Weeks, Clete Boyer, Brent Boyer, Ty (Rachael) Boyer, Corina (Pat) George and Drew (Jenn) Boyer; great-grandchildren, Nick, Katie, Trevor, Cooper, Gracie, Taryn, Presley and Isaac; brothers and sisters-in-law, Joyce (Ralph) Ridnour of Omaha, Nebraska, Dean (Betty) Beemer of Cody, Wyoming, Mary Lu Schofield of Kent, Iowa, Alice Miller of Grant City, Missouri, Jerry (Jean) Beemer of Lenox, Iowa, Sally (Gary) Hensley of Corning, Iowa and Tim (Linda) Beemer of Bedford, Iowa, and sisters-in-law, Zoe Erickson of Conway, Iowa and Beverly Beemer of Basin, Wyoming.
    Watson-Armstrong Funeral Home in Clearfield was in charge of the arrangements.
    Services were conducted at the Christian church in Clearfield on Wednesday, October 9, 2013, with  
Rev. Tim Maxa officiating. Musicians were Becky Nelson, Jim George and Bill Livingston.
    Casket bearers included Clete Boyer, Brent Boyer, Ty Boyer, Drew Boyer, Nick Kirby, Trevor Weeks and Cooper Weeks.
    Military rites were by Woodside Post #97, American Legion.
    Burial was in the Conway Cemetery in Conway.
    A memorial fund has been established to the Clearfield Christian Church.
