KATHLEEN THOMAS FREED

Kathleen Thomas Freed, daughter of Glen and Bernice (Maloy) Thomas, was born November 8, 1918 and passed away November 3, 2013 in Mount Ayr, Iowa.
Kathleen was born in rural Redding, Iowa and resided in and around the area for most of her life. She received her associate’s degree at NWMSU and then graduated with a bachelor’s degree in education from Drake University.
Kathleen taught elementary school for 43 years. In 1938 she met the love of her life, Esse Freed, while teaching in Coberg. Kathleen and Esse were married in 1941.
Kathleen loved spending time with her family and friends. She enjoyed playing cards, teaching and being a member of U.M.W. and P.E.O.
Kathleen was preceded in death by her parents, Glen and Bernice Thomas; husband, Esse Freed; sister, Barbara Seiffert; two sisters-in-law; three brothers-in-law; one niece, and two nephews.
Kathleen is the mother of one child, David Eric Freed, of Redding, Iowa; the grandmother of Emilee Halls, Elexis Behrens and Erik Freed. She is also survived by her four great-grandchildren, Keylee, Bella, Kingstyn and Brynslei, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Kathleen was loved by many and will be dearly missed. A memorial fund has been established for the United Methodist Church in Redding, Iowa. Watson-Armstrong Funeral Home in Mount Ayr was in charge of the arrangements.
Services were held at the United Methodist Church in Redding on Thursday, November 7, 2013, with Rev. Skip Rushing officiating. Musicians included Deb Cannon and Grace Warin.
Casket bearers were Tim Morris, Jason Thummel, Eric Clymer, Ed Sobotka, Roger Walter and Eric Walter.
Honorary pallbearers included Tom Kelly, Gary Lambert and Dr. Dwain Crain.
Burial was in the Redding Cemetery in Redding.
