EDNA SCOTT

Edna Scott was born in southern Ringgold County on April 24, 1927 to Charles and Elsie (Brooner) Pearce. She passed away at Mount Ayr, Iowa on January 24, 2014. Edna was raised and lived on a farm southwest of Kellerton, Iowa with her siblings, May, Mary, Betty and Jim. She graduated from Mount Ayr high school in 1945. Edna worked in Des Moines at Babe’s Restaurant after graduation. In February 1946 Edna married Elmer Scott in Mount Ayr. To this union four children were born, Dean, Gary, Donna and Dale.
Elmer and Edna farmed in Ringgold and Decatur Counties for about 30 years. Upon retirement from farming, Elmer and Edna moved into the town of Grand River, Iowa. Edna enjoyed gardening, going to flea markets and garage sales looking for dolls, listening to country music and going out to eat. She especially enjoyed getting together with her brother and sisters, reminiscing and visiting. Edna liked flowers and was always on the lookout for a new variety of flowers to plant in her yard.
Edna enjoyed visiting with her children and grandchildren. She was a member of the Twentieth Century Club in Grand River for several years. In later years Edna adopted two homeless kittens that she named Tiger and Tuffy. She thoroughly enjoyed their company for several years. Edna also enjoyed feeding and watching the birds out of her kitchen window for many years. Edna resided in Clearview Home in Mount Ayr for the last few years.
Edna was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer, in 1995; her parents, Charles and Elsie Pearce; sister, Mary Mead; sister and brother-in-law, May and Francis Leeper; nieces, May Jane Hayward and Lois Jean Petratis; nephews, Jimmie Lee Pearce and Brian Mead; her brothers and sisters-in-law, Dolf and Elizabeth Newton, Robert and Marie Poush, Paul and Betty Scott, Harold Scott, Peggy Scott and Charles and Carolyn Zollman; niece, Cleo (Patricia) Scott, and nephews Jerry Scott, Ronnie Scott and Norman Newton.
Edna was survived by her four children, Dean Scott of Schaller, Iowa, Gary Scott and wife Pacita of Mount Ayr, Iowa, Donna Lefler of Crofton, Nebraska and Dale Scott of Coleridge, Nebraska; grandchildren, Jason Scott and wife Stacy of Council Bluffs, Iowa, Patrick Scott of Schaller, Iowa, Johanna Scott of Mount Ayr, Iowa, Jared Lefler of Louisville, Nebraska and Jessica Lefler of Crofton, Nebraska; great- grandchildren, Cassie, Samantha, Mike and Joe Scott of Council Bluffs; her great-great grandchild, Dwayne Scott of Council Bluffs, Iowa; her brother, Jim and wife Arlene Pearce of Mount Ayr, Iowa; sister, Betty Scott of Idaho; brother- in- law, Dwayne Mead of Missouri; brother-in-law, Max Scott of Texas, and sister-in-law, Virginia Scott of Mount Ayr, Iowa.
A memorial fund has been established in her name to be decided later.
Services were conducted at Watson-Armstrong Funeral Home in Mount Ayr on Wednesday, January 29, 2014, with Pastor Barton Shields officiating. Musicians were Nancy Sackett, Mary Davenport and Joyce Gregg.
Casket bearers included Jared Lefler, Don Zollman, David Zollman, Keith Pearce, David Pearce and Darrell Adams.
Burial was in the Maple Row Cemetery in Kellerton. A reception was held at the Kellerton Community Room.
