EVERETT DENTON KING

    Everett Denton King, son of Ernest and Reva P. Waldrip King, was born June 22, 1919 in Jefferson Township near Blockton, Iowa and departed this life on March 24, 2014.
    He lived most of his life in Blockton. Everett attended the Blockton school and graduated in 1937. He was very active in all sports. Everett became a member of the Blockton Christian church while a young boy.
    Everett was united in marriage to Lenore Zollman on August 25, 1938 and to this union three daughters were born, Linda Kay, Lynette Reva and Lavonne Ann.
    Beginning in 1939, he served for three years as deputy clerk of district court in Bedford, Iowa. In 1944 he was drafted in the U.S. Army and served two and half years; two years he served overseas. Everett returned to Blockton and began a career at Blockton Oil Company, retiring in 1985. After retiring, Everett was able to spend more time with family. He enjoyed traveling, fishing and playing golf and shuffle board with many friends.
    Everett and Lenore moved to Dallas Center, Iowa to be near family in 2008 but remained devoted to the Blockton community and was a member of The Blockton American Legion for 68 years. Everett passed away peacefully at Spurgeon Manor in Dallas Center on March 24, 2014. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lenore, and his parents, Ernest and Reva King.
    Those left to cherish his memory include daughters Linda (Harry) Heiden of Punta Gorda, Florida, Lynette (Stan) Amrine of Dallas Center, Iowa and LaVonne Nelson of West Des Moines, Iowa; grandchildren Sherry (John) Jacobs of Earlham, Iowa, Sandy (Mark) Perez of Fort Meyers, Florida, Rachel Amrine and Bobbie Heimberg of Des Moines, Iowa, Robin (Jake) Ludington of Santa Cruz, California and Jennifer (Patrick Luber) Nelson of Grand Forks, North Dakota; great-grandchildren Cody Hills, Dalton Hills, Wyatt Hawbaker and Geneva Ludington; sister-in-law Mary Lou Zollman of Perry, Iowa, and other relatives and friends.
    A memorial fund has been established for Saint Jude Hospice in Johnston, Iowa and Blockton Community Betterment.
    Services will be held at Watson-Armstrong Funeral Home in Mount Ayr on Friday, March 28, 2014 at 11 a.m. with Rev. Scott Marcum officiating. Musicians will be Jodi Lawrence and Marvel Melvin.
    Casket bearers will include Jerry King, David Loutzenhiser, Loren Winemiller, Earl Drake, Jim Winemiller and Richard Brown.
    Honorary pallbearers are David Bell, Wayne Kemery and Jerry Kemery.
    Military rites will be by Blockton Post 443, American Legion.
    Burial will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery in Blockton.
