RODNEY “ROD” HAROLD CLOUD

    Rodney “Rod” Harold Cloud passed away Sunday, April 27, 2014 at the Ringgold County Hospital in Mount Ayr.  Rod was born June 25, 1939 to Harold Ralph Cloud and Mildred Irene (Stranberg) in Galva, Iowa.  Rod was educated in Dayton and Storm Lake Schools.  He served in the National Guard from 1958 to 1964.
    Rod moved to Mount Ayr in 1965 while working for Evans Construction putting in direct dial telephone lines.  On July 29, 1967 Rod was united in marriage to Lois Marie Cannon in Mount Ayr.  Rod worked for the telephone company in Mount Ayr for 28 years until retiring.  After retirement Rod worked as a telephone line locator and drove a chemical truck for Helena Chemical Company.  He was a member of the American Legion Post #172 of Mount Ayr.  Rod was an avid Iowa Hawkeyes fan and enjoyed watching ball games when they were winning.  He also enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren.
    Rod was preceded in death by; his parents, Harold and Mildred Cloud; father in-law, Wilbur Cannon; mother in-law, Marie Cannon-Garner.  Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 46 years, Lois Cloud of Mount Ayr, Iowa; daughter, Rhonda (Khaled) Abdalla and children Ibrahim, Moustafa, Samia and Layla Abdalla all of West Des Moines, Iowa; two sons, Kenny Cloud of West Des Moines, Iowa and Ryan Cloud (significant other Clara White) and children Trenton Cloud and Darrin White all of Des Moines, Iowa; two brothers, Gary (Julie) Cloud of Ankeny and Douglas (Leida) Cloud of Topeka, Kansas; brother in-law, Marvin (Verlene) Cannon of Bondurant, Iowa; five grandchildren; one step-grandson.
    Services were held at the Watson-Armstrong Funeral Home in Mount Ayr on Thursday, May 1, 2014, with Pastor Bill Armstrong officiating. Musical selections included “I’ll Fly Away,” “Amazing Grace” and “The Old Rugged Cross.”
    Casket bearers were Scott Hensley, Jim Hensley, Wade Cloud, Jesse Cannon, David Oyler and Gregg Cannon.
    A memorial fund has been established in Rod’s name.
    Burial was in the Rose Hill Cemetery in Mount Ayr.
