WILMA MAE WHITE

Wilma Mae White was born May 30, 1918, the daughter of Ira and Mary (Campbell) Bakerink in Adair County, Iowa. She passed away on Monday, April 21, 2014, at the Greenfield Manor in Greenfield, Iowa at the age of 95.
Wilma grew up on a farm near Hoopy Hollow in Adair County. She graduated from eighth grade in 1933 and earned her GED later in life. On December 21, 1938, she was united in marriage to Howard White. To this union four children were born, Susan, John, Mary and Ira. The family made their home in Greenfield. Wilma worked for the Greenfield Community schools for over 20 years as a cook. Wilma loved baking for the children at the school. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, canning, crocheting and helping Howard with the bees. She was a member of the Greenfield United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women and a lifetime member of Rebekah Lodge. Wilma liked to go to garage sales and auctions. She baked award winning pies and rolls. Wilma’s family loved her delicious homemade noodles. Her favorite Bible verse was John 3:16.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Howard White in 2006; granddaughter, Barbara White; daughter-in-law, Jayne Larson; two brothers, Otis and Vernon Bakerink, and three sisters, Velna Winkelmann, Sarah Sharon and Mildred Winkelmann.
She is survived by her four children, Susan Ferber of Greenfield, Iowa, John White and wife Trish of Diagonal, Iowa, Mary Swank and husband Lyle, Jr. of Benton, Iowa and Ira White of Ames, Iowa; 15 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; 14 great-great-grandchildren, and other relatives and friends.

A funeral service was held Friday, April 25, 2014, at the United Methodist Church in Greenfield with Pastor Eric Schubert officiating. Musicians were Janna Nelson and Connie Lundy.
Pall bearers included Jack Farlow, Jeff Farlow, Andy White, David White, Mike Swank, Richard Swank, Jordan White and Daniel Roemer.
Honorary pallbearers were Judy Clough, Brenda Karr, Karla Larson, Anjea Neff, Julia White, Debra Benjamin and Jody Roemer.
Interment was in the Greenfield Cemetery in Greenfield.
