DOROTHY I. McDOWELL

Dorothy I. McDowell, 99, of North Henderson, died 12:41 p.m. Tuesday, July 15, 2014 at the Knox County Nursing Home, in Knoxville.
She was born April 18, 1915 in Ringgold County, Iowa, the daughter of Peter G. and Anna (Shaffer) Holmes. She was reared and educated in Mount Ayr, Iowa.
Dorothy married Wayne McDowell in Mount Ayr, Iowa on May 10, 1934 and he died June 3, 1980.
She moved to North Henderson in 1940. Dorothy was a nurse’s aid at Cottage Hospital in Galesburg for two years and was a beautician for 50 years. She later worked at Admiral in Galesburg, retiring after 15 years.
She was a member of the North Henderson Methodist Church, North Henderson Floral Club and the Ever Busy Club of North Henderson.
Those left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Shirley Fox Watson of North Henderson; two sons, Gary McDowell, of North Henderson and Terry (Elaine) McDowell of East Galesburg; 11 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren and 11 great-great-grandchildren; along with nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one granddaughter, Linda Fox, three sisters and three brothers, two sons-in-law and one daughter-in-law.
Funeral services were held Saturday at the North Henderson United Methodist Church, with Dr. Roberta Robbins officiating. Burial was in Mount Vernon Cemetery, North Henderson.
Memorials may be given to the North Henderson United Methodist Church or the Knox County Nursing Home. Hoover-Hall Memorial Chapel, Alexis, is in charge of arrangements.
