Helen suffered an injury at birth, which caused her lifelong physical disability. Though she battled physical limitations, they never dampened her enjoyment of life or her many accomplishments. Not only did Helen learn to speak and walk, she delighted in singing and dancing.
Helen was raised on a farm near Beaconsfield, Iowa. She and her mother made many trips to Iowa City, Iowa for doctor care. At the age of 10, Helen’s family moved to Compton, California. Padgitt on June 13, 1956 at the Wee Kirk of the Heather Chapel in Las Vegas, Nevada. Jack and Helen began their married life in California; while there they had a son, Chris, and a daughter Athena. They lived in California for four years before returning to Iowa in 1962, to farm south of Kellerton. There they raised their family and had another daughter, Naomi.
Helen was active in church; she loved playing the piano and helping with Vacation Bible School. She shared her love of music with many, including her family. She enjoyed performing with her three children in a band, Athena Anne and the Country Bumpkins, for many years.
Helen cherished her family and friends the most; she always had a positive outlook towards life and appreciated every day. Family and friends recall that Helen was always smiling and cheerful.
She was preceded in death by her mother and father.
