PATRICIA “PAT” ANN PRENTIS

    Patricia “Pat” Ann Prentis, 82, of Ottumwa, Iowa, beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, died August 13, 2014 at Hospice House in Ottumwa. She was born April 4, 1932 to Elma Elnore (Stephens) and Weldon C. Main in Mount Ayr, Iowa, and was married January 6, 1951 in Mount Ayr to Raymond “Ray” E. Prentis.
    She was always active in various business ventures with her husband of 63 years, which included restaurant ownership and management, driving a semi-trailer truck cross-country as owner-operators, and owning and operating laundry and dry-cleaning services in Ottumwa. In addition, she catered dinners and coffee breaks for local businesses and was a dental receptionist a number of years. In young adulthood, she had also been a dental assistant. She enjoyed wood-working, gardening and canoeing before her health declined, but had many years of enjoyment creating and sharing inspirational, political and humorous messages with her friends on her computer after she was homebound.
    She is survived by her loving husband and children: Tim Prentis and wife Merry (Crouse) of Estero, FL, and Julie and husband Steve Watts of Houston, TX; grandchildren: Joel Watts, wife Blake (Motley) and daughter Zoe of Houston; Alison (Watts) and husband Matthew Enthoven of Santa Monica, CA; Jennifer (Watts), husband Thomas Gooch and daughter Madilyn of Allen, TX, step-great-grandchildren Ashlyn and Thomas Gooch, Jr.; sister Barbara Reynolds of Mount Ayr, IA, and many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, dear friends and caring neighbors. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, John Main.
    At her request, services will be private and held at a later date. Contributions may be made in memory of Pat Prentis to Hospice House, 927 Pennsylvania Ave, Ottumwa, IA 52501.
