ROBERT “BOB” ALLEN

Robert “Bob” Allen, 70, of LeGrand, Iowa, passed away peacefully on August 27, 2014, at home, under the care of Iowa River Hospice, with his loving family by his side.
A public memorial service for Bob will be held at one O’clock (1) p.m., Saturday, September 6, 2014, at Mitchell Family Funeral Home.
Following the service please join the family for a time of fellowship, refreshments and sharing memories. The family is requesting casual dress. Memorial contributions may be directed in Bob’s name to his family. The Mitchell Family Funeral Home is entrusted with caring for Bob and his family.
Robert “Bob” Allen was born on March 15, 1944, to parents, David H. and Alice I. (Irving) Allen. He graduated from Mount Ayr Community High School and went on to receive his Bachelor’s Degree from Iowa State University. On November 24, 1963, Bob married Barbara (Sackett) Allen in Mount Ayr, Iowa.
Bob spent his life in the agriculture business, working in marketing and sales, as well as being involved with livestock nutrition. He was a member of the Grace Community Church. Bob enjoyed golf, reading westerns and being with his grandkids. Bob never met a stranger and will forever be remembered as a storyteller with a great sense of humor. In his retirement he loved driving semi and helping out his son-in-law on their farm.
Bob is survived by his wife of 50 years, Barbara K. (Sackett) Allen; four children, Kerri (Eric) Rubenbauer, Mike (Charles) Allen, Kelley (Russ)Roseland, and Douglas (Heather) Allen. Grandchildren: Ashley (Rubenbauer) and Travis McFarland, Justine (Rubenbauer) and Daniel Hoover, Phillip and Jordan Rubenbauer, Andrew Rubenbauer, Blake Roseland, Samantha Roseland, Holly Roseland, Alexandria Allen, Olivia Allen, Wesley Woods and Whitney Woods. Great- grandchildren Jacey and Maxim McFarland and Kenny and Eliza Hoover. He is also survived by his two brothers, Art (Sherry)Allen; John (Cindy) Allen and sister, Ruth (John)Zahner. As well as Barb’s siblings and many nieces and nephews.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, David and Alice Allen; sisters-in-laws, Betty Sackett Halfhill, Lyndal Sackett, and Nan Allen; nephew, Drew Sackett; mother and father-in-law, Burl and Grace Sackett.
