    Helen M. DeFeo NiskayunaHelen M. DeFeo, 91, of Hawthorn Rd died peacefully at home on Wednesday, August 27, 2014 after a brief illness. Born in Hale, Missouri, she was raised in Mount Ayr, Iowa. Helen was one of eight children of Lee and Maude (Brown) Hobbs. She graduated from Mount Ayr High School in 1941. She married the late Dr. Edward DeFeo of Schenectady in 1949, and was married for 59 years. She is survived by two sons, Brian (Lona) of Middleburgh and Timothy of Niskayuna; two grandchildren and a great-granddaughter. She taught English as a second language to students from around the world through Literacy Volunteers of America. Helen cherished the lifelong friendships she made with many of her students. She was a life-member of the Medical Alliance of the Schenectady County Medical Society. Helen was a member of the Eastern Parkway United Methodist Church. She enjoyed sewing, crafts, reading and crossword puzzles. Donations can be made to the City Mission of Schenectady.
