Mt. Ayr 65, CD 48
The Raiders moved on to 10-0 for the season defeating Central Decatur 65-48.
“There are two kinds of rivalries, mean ones and nice ones and this is a nice one,” said coach Ruggles. “We love Zach Clarke and love what he does with his kids. I think the rivalry helps keep us grounded.”
A tight game into the half, the Raiders ended the first down 14-13 before leading it 29-26.
In Raider fashion, the Raiders had a big third quarter, outscoring the Cardinals 22-12 and finishing out the game with a victory to win it.
The Raiders saw four players get into double digit scoring, led by Dawson Frost who scored 18, while his cousin Jaixen Frost racked up 13.
Isaac Grose and Payton Weehler rounded out the group with 12 and 11 points, respectively.
Dawson Frost had 10 trips to the free throw line in the game and hit seven-of-10 to help give the Raiders the push over the Cardinals.
“When times get tough, like tonight, these guys make tough shots,” said coach Ruggles. “One game at a time and handle the situation when it comes up.”

Mt. Ayr 77, Murray 63
The Raiders hosted the Murray Mustangs on Monday night. The 9-2 Mustangs stayed neck-and-neck with the Raiders until an early timeout called by coach Bret Ruggles calmed them down.
“I didn’t really challenge them as much as much as I just talked about getting back to simplicity,” said coach Ruggles. “Right after that I think we hit five straight shots and never looked back.”
The Raiders would go on to lead after the first eight minutes, 22-16.
By halftime, the Raiders led 44-39., a big third quarter saw the Raiders outscore the Mustangs 26-12, and in the fourth the bench came in for the starters.
The Mustangs began a comeback in the fourth, outscoring the Raiders 23-7, but it was not enough to close the gap.
The Raiders stayed undefeated with a 77-63 victory.
On Tuesday, the Raiders hosted the Lenox Tigers, but the game was played after presstime.
On Friday, the Raiders will face Martensdale-St. Mary’s who is tied for first in the Pride of Iowa Conference with the Raiders.
“If we see a really good ball game infront of us or we have one behind it, right now we are rooting eachother on right now,” said Ruggles. “We don’t have many losses in Mount Ayr right now and it’s a testament to all our kids and it’s great to see us both succeeding.
