Donovan Morales wrestles his Riverside opponent at the John J. Harris Tournament in Corning.
The Raider grappers recently traveled to Corning for the John J. Harris Tournament held over two days.
The Raiders had a few podium finishes with Bryce Shaha taking the lone first place spot and Trae and Drew Ehlen both taking second in their respective weights.
Trae Ehlen also received his 100th win of his career.
In Bryce Shaha’s bracket in the 120 pound class, he was able to defeat Dawson Muller (AC/GC), Kyle Kesterson (SW Iowa), Johnathan Erp (Red Oak) and Ethan Follmann (Atlantic-CAM).
Trae Ehlen (138) defeated his opponents, Grayson Spencer (Wayne), Fred Veatch (Missouri Valley) and Kaden Bolton (Creston/O-M) before falling to Kruise Kiburz (Winterset) by a 4-3 decision in the first place match.
Drew Ehlen (106) received a bye in the first round before defeating Travis Allen (Winterset) and Justin Parsons (Creston/O-M). Ehlen fell to John Schroder of Riverside, Oaklan in a 6-2 decision.
Jaydon Knight finished fourth overall in the 145 weight class. Knight defeated Brayden Daly (Bedford/Lenox) and Eric Mcllnay (Missouri Valley) before falling to Emry Colby (Panorama) in the semifinals. Knight came back in the consolation bracket to defeat Rhett Bentley (Riverside, Oakland) before falling to Eric Mcllnay (Missouri Valley) in a 9-3 decision.
Donovan Morales (220) finished sixth overall for Mount Ayr. Morales defeated Jayce Wyatt of Wayne before following to Crew Howard of Clarinda. Morales would grab two more wins before falling to Jory Christensen of Nodaway Valley. Morales won the fifth place match over Jake Smith of Clarke.
Payton Fleharty, Trey Fooken, Talal Rahahleh, Andi Gonzales and Braydon Swietlik were unable to place in their matches at the tournament, facing stiff competition.
The Raiders finished fifth in the tournament overall with Winterset taking top honors.
Despite the Ron Scott Duals being cancelled this year due to weather, the Raiders will have a home meet tonight (Thursday, January 30) against Bedford/Lenox and Maryville. A youth tournament will also take place on a second mat during the high school match.
