Three Raiders advance to district tournament in Pleasantville

The wrestling post-season got underway this weekend with Mount Ayr heading to Truro to see how many of the five wrestlers they could advance to districts this Saturday in Pleasantville.
The answer is three.
The Raiders saw Jaydon Knight and Brock Shaha each place first in their respective weights, while Braydon Swietlik finished second to advance to the next round of post-season compeitition.
In the 106 pound weight class, Brock Shaha (31-10) received a bye in the quarterfinals before wrestling Tommy Booth (18-9) of Pleasantville.
Shaha won by fall in 2:55 to advance to face Earlham’s Dallas Canoyer (28-12) in the first place matchup.
Shaha made quick work of Canoyer, getting the pin in just 29 seconds to secure his advancement to his very first high school district tournament.
The second wrestler to advance was Jaydon Knight (35-4).
Knight, at 170 pounds, received a bye in the quarterfinals before facing Logan Montgomery (28-18) of Southeast Warren.
Knight had a good matchup against Montgomery but moved on for a shot at the first place spot after winning by fall in 2:58.
Knight would go on to face Nic Swalla of Earlham.
Knight scored five points in the first period before scoring three more in the second after an escape and a couple of takedowns. Swalla put up a fight late in the third, scoring four points, however as time ran out, Knight won by a 9-5 decision to take first and advance to the district tournament.
At 182 pounds, the Raiders fielded Keaton White (16-5).
White received a bye in the quarterfinals before facing Eli Green (23-8) of Interstate-35.
White lasted three rounds before Green got the win by fall in 5:31.
White would go on to wrestle Ross Stephens (11-11) of Pleasantville for third place and just miss out on a trip to wrestle at districts.
At 195 pounds, the Raiders wrestled Tucker Larson (4-26).
Larson first saw Trevor Daggett (29-11) of Pleasantville.
Daggett received the win by fall in 1:32.
Larson then saw Grant Jones (10-3) of Interstate-35 for a shot at third place, whoever, Jones won by fall in 2:27 and Larson placed fourth overall.
At 220 pounds, the Raiders had Braydon Swietlik (24-14).
Swietlik faced Wayne’s Cutler Buban (13-17) in the semifinals where Swietlik got the pin after a reversal in the third round, while also behind 4-3 in the points, to take the win in 5:11.
Swietlik would then face Evan Foreman (29-9) of Interstate-35.
Foreman got the win after a 6-0 decision.
Swietlik finished second overall after a no-contest in the wrestlebacks and Swietlik moved on to the district tournament on Saturday.
