David Lee Hunt was born October 6, 1956, to Maurice “Jake” and Helen Louise Sickels Hunt at the Ringgold County Hospital, Mount Ayr, IA. Thirteen and half months later he was joined by baby brother, Randy Lynn. David attended school in Maloy through the third grade. From the fourth grade through the seventh grade, he attended Redding school. David attended Mount Ayr Community School, from the eighth grade to his high school graduation in 1974. After graduating high school, David attended college for one year at UNI in Cedar Falls, IA. After that first year David transferred to Northwest Missouri in Maryville, MO where he completed his bachelor’s degree graduating in January of 1979.
David started working for U.S. Gypsum Company in March of 1979, in Ft. Dodge, IA. He stayed in Ft. Dodge for his first two years. He then transferred to Carbondale, IL, where he worked for the next two years. He then transferred and worked for two years in Bedford, IN. From there he transferred to Chicago, IL. when he decided to start doing sales for U.S. Gypsum Company. David continued to work on the sales team until he retired from U.S. Gypsum in 2014.
David enjoyed deer and turkey hunting. During, hunting season he always made sure he got a deer every year. He also entered BBQ contests around the area.
During his retirement he split his time between his place in the Lake of the Ozark, the farm in Redding, IA or his mother home in Mount Ayr, IA.
David was a very outgoing person. He never met a stranger and had many friends across the US. In 2015 David traveled to Europe and visited many different counties.
David passed away February 27, 2022.
David is survived by his mother, Helen Hunt; brother, Randy Hunt, and wife, Lori Hunt; nephew, Douglas Hunt (Amy Quick,); niece, Amanda Hunt (Micheal Curphey,); great niece, Hayley Hunt, and great nephews, Connor Curphey, Carson Curphey and Corbon Curphey; aunt, Ann McGrevey, and her husband, Dan, and family, Curt and Ann Duffield, Jason and Jill Duffield, Sean and Amy McGrevey, Ann and Steve Books; aunt, Karen Bollerman, and her family, Krista and Mark Huffman; special, friend Pamela Eugster, along with two special friends in the Kansas City area, Chris Walter and Craig Partin, Craig passed away on February 26, 2022, so, you can figure that David and Craig are having a gay old time somewhere; two special friends in Ringgold County, Charlie Abarr and Tim Saville; many cousins and friends.
David was preceded in death by his father, Jake, in 2013; his grandparents, George and Orilla Hunt, Bernard and Leta Sullivan, Duane Sickels.
Services were at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 5, 2022 at Armstrong Funeral Home Mount Ayr, IA.
Officiating was Pastor Bill Armstrong.
Musician was Korbie Rinehart.
Songs were “The Old Rugged Cross” and “Will The Circle Be Unbroken”.
Honorary pallbearers were Jason Duffield, Curt Duffield, Mark Huffman, John Hall, Charles Abarr and Tim Saville.
Memorials are to the American Heart Association and Wounded Warrior Project.
