The annual Diagonal Lions Club Labor Day celebration will feature three days filled with activities Saturday, September 3 through Monday, September 5.
Saturday, September 3
Sign-up for the Junior Class UTV Poker Run begins at 12 p.m. at the south end of Broadway. The race begins at 1 p.m. The route will be announced closer to the competition. The event is sponsored by the Ringgold Outdoor Alliance.
Registration for the Fogle Lake Fun Run will begin at 3 p.m. The run for ages 10 and up begins at 4 p.m. with the 10 and under run beginning at 4:45 p.m. Contact Alaina Whittington at 641-734-5037 for more information.
The public serving of entries from the Diagonal Smoke meat smoking competition from 6-8 p.m. at the fire station. Contact Michael Bentley at 641-202-1983 for more information.
Sunday, September 4
The action really revs up Sunday as a full day of activities and contests are planned.
An outdoor church service is planned from 8:30-9:30 a.m. In case of rain, the service will be held at the church.
Registration for the car and motorcycle show will run from 9-11 a.m. with judging taking place at noon. Awards will be presented at 2 p.m. Vehicles will be on display around the Community Building. Contact Rob Graham at 641-340-1994 for more information.
The kids’ pedal pull will begin at 11 a.m. on Broadway Street south of the park. Call Jim Newton at 641-344-1893 with questions.
The three-on-three basketball tournament also gets underway at 11 a.m. Competitors of all ages are asked to sign up under the water tower at 10 a.m. For more information contact Blake Butler at 641-278-0323.
A fishing derby for kids ages 5-16 will begin at Fogle Lake at 2:30 p.m. Poles will be available, and prizes will be awarded. Call Jason Smith at 641-344-2262 with questions.
The first of many Labor Day pulls – the truck and tractor distance pull – will begin at 2:00 p.m. and last all evening. Trucks and tractors will compete in 10 different divisions with over $5,000 in prize money awarded.
A bean bag toss tournament will get underway across the road west of the park at 4:30 p.m. Contact Kasydi Klommhaus at 641-234-0278 or Kaitlyn Parrott at 641-234–0258.
The annual fireworks spectacular will light up the night skies following the conclusion of the tractor pull at approximately 9 p.m. or whenever the pull is over. Viewing from Fogle Lake is recommended.
Monday, September 5
The “Mammoth Parade” will get under way at 10 a.m. The theme of this year’s parade is “The One and Only.”
The dirt track bike races for both kids and adults begin at 11:30 a.m. Contact Clint Kniep at 641-344-0623 for more information.
Free watermelon will be served Monday afternoon.
At 1 p.m. the garden tractor pull for youth 14 and under will be held at the top of Broadway. The competition is open to those capable of all operation with no help.
The pickup and farm tractor distance pull will begin at 1 p.m. Competition is open to stock and modified two-wheel and four-wheel drive pickups and diesel and farm tractors. Call JP Whittington at 641-340-0769.
A nickel scramble for the kids will take place at 4 p.m. by the water tower.
The ducks in the Duck Regatta will be released at 5 p.m. Cash prizes will be awarded with the first place prize earning $1,000, second $500, third $250, fourth $100 and fifth through tenth earning $50. Tickets will be available up to 4 p.m. Monday, the day of the race.
Ongoing activities
Besides the scheduled events, a number of other activities will run both Sunday and Monday. These include a junior class fund raiser.
Bingo will run from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. both days. In addition to the regular games, two daily games will be worth $50 in prize money.
The Printing Museum and Genealogy Center will be open Saturday and Sunday from 2-4 p.m. and Monday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Food will be available at all times in the park.
