Mount Ayr 56,
Sidney 6
Friday night marked Homecoming for Mount Ayr in which the Raiders faced the Sidney Cowboys.
The first quarter saw the Raiders score from the first play of the game, handing off to Braydon Pierson who took it 48 yards for six. Jaixen Frost split the uprights and the Raiders were up 7-0.
It was a scoring frenzy for the Raider varsity squad as they continued to extend their lead, putting the running-clock on the board after five more touchdowns in the first quarter.
Frost scored on a seven yard keeper, followed by a Kade Dugan 11-yard rush.
Pierson added six more on a 33-yard punt return, Jaydon Knight took it in from 30-yards out and defensive lineman Colton Dredge had a five-yard interception at the Sidney five that saw him walk in for six.
“I just got through the line and they threw it right to me,” said Dredge. “It was just so suprising.”
Dredge’s score capped off an impressive first quarter for the Raiders that saw them ahead 42-0.
The Raider varsity squad put one more touchdown on the board in the first half off a Jaixen Frost 13-yard rush.
The Raider junior varsity squad played out the rest of the first-half, while continuing the second-half as well.
Sidney was able to get on the board in the fourth quarter on a Jeramiah Ballan nine-yard rush.
The Raiders closed out the game with two minutes left on the clock as Evan Weehler drove in for three-yards.
Jackson Ruggles found Ethan Main in the endzone for the two-point conversion.
The Raiders totaled 211 yards of offense while pushing the Cowboys backwards all night for a total offense of negative two yards for the Cowboys, despite them gaining 75 yards on the ground, while losing 73.
The Cowboys had one pass completion that went negative four yards.
The Raiders gained all their yards on the ground, rushing 28 times for 211 yards.
The Raiders committed seven penalties for 70 yards, while the Cowboys were flagged eight times for 60 yards.
“We talked all last week about responding and we knew we had to come back and play the type of football that we knew,” said coach Ryan Victor. “Some of the days during the week were kind of rough but we stuck together and came through. They did exactly what we throught they should do.”
