The matter of building a new hotel in Mount Ayr was again considered at a meeting of the Commercial Club last Wednesday evening at the town hall and those who have taken the initiative in an attempt to provide this much needed improvement submitted a proposition to build a hotel on the lots belonging to the Wilson estate on the west side of the square.
Should this plan be adopted it would be necessary to provide for the vacation of the alley between the old Masonic building and the building occupied by the Thompson Battery Shop and that would provide ample room on what is considered a spledid location.
Marriage: Mildred Claton became the bride of Walter Reynolds.

Robert J. Gibson of Red Oak, assumed his duties Monday as county engineer of Ringgold County. He will serve the county under a two year and one month contract at $4,800 a year.
Mount Ayr won a close game from Creston at Creston Tuesday night, 32-26. Charles Richards led the scoring, making a total of 9 points. Jim Eason was next with 7 and Prentis and Jones each made 6. The score by quarters was: 1st quarter, 10-10; half, 17-16; 3rd quarter, 25-25; and final score of 32-26.
Warren Drake and Roy Larson, both of Liberty township and Elmer Reece of Lincoln township, have been nominated for the office of Commissioner of the Ringgold County Soils District. This election will be held in conjunction with the Tom Kelly appearance in Mount Ayr on December 8.
Marriage: Novmeber 27, Jean Stevens and Charold Roberts.

LBanks Wilson is the new president of the Mount Ayr Community Improvement Club. He was elected at a meeting of the organization’s board of directors following the annual election at the Shamrock Cafe December 7. Wilson will take over the reins of the community group January 2. Retiring president is Robert “Boze” Ward.
An unhearlded snow storm swept into Ringgold County Monday evening and by the time it left Tuesday and estimated 5 inches of new snow had been dumped on the county.
Raiders beat Lenox 63-60, now tied for second in the conference. Coach Glen McDonald called it the Raiders’ best performance of the year. They used balanced scoring to turn the trick, with David McNeill collecting 17, Dave Henderson, Kurt Nichols, and Bob Johnson 13 each and Rick Adams seven. Schweers counted 14 for Lenox with Joe Carr adding 13 and Dukes and Bradley 12 each.

Progress being made on Family Resource Center-The final course of bricks were being finished upon the back side of the new Family Resource Center building which is being built across the road to the north of the Mount Ayr Community elementary school building. Plans are to have the building completed by February 1.
Michael Shafer, son of Robert and Sheila Shafer of Mount Ayr is the choir director for the Presbyterian Church in Creston.
Jim Rotert of Beaconsfield is a member of the Central College wrestling team again this year. Rotert, a senior at the Pella College and a 3 year letter winner will be wrestling at 158 pounds.
A new Amana freezer was given away as promotion at the Mount Ayr Hy-Vee store recently. Betty Davenport of Mount Ayr was the winner in the drawing.
Marriage: August 27, Leslie Barker and Dr. Ramez Salamah.

This week House Speaker, Kraig Paulen, (R-Hiawatha) appointed Rep. Cecil Dolecheck (R-Mount Ayr) chair of the House of Education Appropriations Subcommittee.
First Father-Daughter dance a hit- This weekend the Mount Ayr Drama Club sponsored a Father-Daughter dance for kindergarten through 6th grade girls and their fathers. It started at 7 p.m and lasted until 9 p.m. It was a great turn out. All the girls looked adorable in their dresses.
This past season Mount Ayr Raider football partnered with the local Hy-Vee food store to help fight hunger in Ringgold County. Every time the Raiders sacked a quarterback during varsity home games, Hy-Vee donated a $10 sack of groceries to the Mount Ayr Neighborhood Center food pantry. After the season was completed, the senior football players and new Hy-Vee manager, Roger Townsend, delivered 27 sacks of groceries to the Neighborhood center, representing 27 sacks of opposing quarterbacks by the Raiders and a total of $270 in food for the pantry.
