The basketball season ended for the Raiderettes a couple of weeks ago with a loss to the Central Decatur Cardinals in regional play.
The Raiderettes, however, had a very successful season, despite facing adversity throughout 2022-23.
The season ended with a 15-7 record for the Raiderettes and a third place finish in the Pride of Iowa conference, behind Nodaway Valley who took the title and Martensdale-St. Marys, in second place.
While not the best mark in Raiderette history, the team secured four more wins over last year’s 11-10 team.
The Raiderettes were led by sophomore Breya Nickle in points, with 264 and a 44.1 percent efficiency shooting, while senior Tegan Streit was second with 224 points on the season, with a 39 percent shooting percentage.
Nickle also led the team in steals (56) and blocks (19).
Streit led the Raiderettes in rebounds (179) and assists (121).
In 22 games, the Raiderettes saw a pretty healthy starting lineup with four girls starting all 22 games, while Linsie Barnes started 21 games and played in 21 and Jillian Kniep played in 21 games and started one.
Jaxy Knight, another sophomore standout for Mount Ayr, played in 21 games, scoring 132 points, snagging 67 rebounds, recording 29 assists and 36 steals.
Senior Linsie Barnes recorded 161 rebounds, second on the team.
As a team, the Raiderettes scored 1,117 points while making 406-of-993 shots for a 40.9 percent average.
From three-point territory, the Raiderettes hit 80-of-276 from beyond the arc, for a 29 percent efficiency.
The Raiderettes saw themselves at the free-throw line often, making 57.3 percent of their shots, making 225-of-393 attempts.
The Raiderettes secured 721 rebounds with 244 coming on offense and 477 on defense.
The Raiderettes passed the ball around plenty to record 349 assists and on defense recorded 228 steals and 45 blocks.
The Raiderettes graduate five seniors in Tabby Henle, MaKenna Jones, Tegan Streit, Linsie Barnes and Jillian Kniep.
