Clarence Ives has been chosen as field captain of Diagonal Blue Sox baseball team.
The baseball diamond for the next 3 years will be on the Chas. Wing farm east and across the road from the C.G.W. Depot.
John C. Crawford left the first of last week for Amarillo, TX to take a position as foreman of a paint gang on the Santa Fe Railroad.
Mr. Crawford was formerly employed by the Santa Fe Railroad Co. and the faithful service rendered was the recommendation which secured the position. Mrs. Crawford and Kathleen expect to go to Amarillo about the first of the week.
Marriage: Wednesday of last week there was a double wedding, Avery Johnston to Agnes Reynolds and Fay Wilhelm to Wallace Pike.
Births: May 4, a daughter to Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Lutz…April 23, a daughter, Marjorie, to Mr. and Mrs. Harold Clark…May 1, a son, James, to Mr. and Mrs. O.G. Triggs…May 8, a son, to Mr. and Mrs. J.A. Bliss…May 7, a son, to Mr. and Mrs. Claude Lantz…Tuesday a daughter, to Mr. and Mrs. O.D. Garland.

The preview opening of the D & B Firestone store in Mount Ayr will be held May 12.
The grand opening of the store will be Thursday, Friday and Saturday of the next week.
Neighbors went Friday afternoon to the farm of Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Kimball and plowed 20 acres of land for Mr. Kimball who has been ill.
Men who performed the good deed included George German, Kermit Miller, Arthur Deibert, Carroll Smith, Alex Saltzman, Rollo Fry, Glen Pine, Lewis Brand, Seth Campbell, Lyndon Taylor, Burl Sackett and Richard Knight.
Eight seniors of the Diagonal high school will receive their diplomas at the commencement exercise which will be held Thursday May 13.
Members of the class include: Joe Sobotka, Barbara Overholser, A J Parker, Bernadine Linkvis, Helen Bata, Edith Gibson, Joy Hemington, and Mildred Todd.
Marriage: April 28, Bertha Shields and Lester Hoover…April 24, Doris Kobbe and Paul Boulton.

Andy Sackett will be honored by the Mount Ayr Lions Club in Creston Saturday, May 12. He will be presented a plaque recognizing him for his contributions to athletics at Mount Ayr community high school and Southwestern Community College.
Seniors plan their futures- Many times you hear the question “what do you plan to do after you get out of school?”
Since the question popped up so many times, I was asked to run a survey. What are some of the seniors going to do?
Probably the most original one I received was from Bobby Ricker. Bob says he plans to tour the country backing up R.E.O. Speedwagon, a rock group. Another of the more original jobs will be done by Kenny Robertson who will be working for the railroad.

Brian Moore has been hired as the Ringgold County Engineer and will assume this full-time position with the county May 11.
Moore was hired by the Ringgold County Board of Supervisors to replace James King who resigned.
Travis Johnson, son of Theron and Marilyn Johnson of Delphos, was one of more than 500 University of Northern Iowa student leaders invited as a guest to the 81st anniversary Finkbine dinner, one of the most prestigious award ceremonies at the university.
In the Rebel Raider Relays meet, the junior high boys placed fourth. The junior high boys took first in 2 events–the shuttle hurdle relay with Joe Rumple, Kellen Waldier, Kenny Hatton and BayLee Stull. And the 4×800 relay with Nick Grose, Lyndon Hawkins, Mark Trullinger and Colby Baker.

Ten Years Ago

Near the bottom of Monday night’s Mount Ayr city council agenda was the item entitled “Decisions on direction to proceed with residential garbage removal.”
The discussion lasted nearly 45 minutes and at times became heated.
The Diagonal Maroons archery team held its fundraiser Sunday evening which was highlighted by a performance by Matt Stutzman, silver medalist at the 2012 Paralympic Summer Games in London. Stutzman, who was born without arms, uses his feet to hold the bow.
Winners in the Ringgold County Soil and Water Conservation District poster contest were, 7th grader, Kole Paxson; 6th grader, Niclole Cooke; and 2nd grader, Alaina Whittington.
Charlene Hingeley and Heath Evans, were named queen and king of Diagonal high school prom.
Births: a daughter, LeaAnn to Matt Swank and Mary McGary.
