Pride of Iowa Meet
The Mount Ayr Track & Field teams traveled to Martensdale for the Pride of Iowa Conference meet on Monday night.
It wasn’t just the runners, throwers and jumpers competing, however, as the 20 m.p.h. wind was fighting everyone, but that didn’t stop Ryce Reynolds from setting a new meet record in the 400 meter hurdles or a new school record in the 200 meter dash.
“You have to practice when the weather’s bad. It’s easy to stay inside where it’s warm and fuzzy in those situations and if you don’t practice in these kinds of conditions how do you expect to compete in them,” said Mount Ayr coach Brad Elliott. “Coach was infamously notorious for putting us through these situations and if it’s going to be bad at practice it’ll be bad at a meet somewhere.”
The Raiders would win the conference championship, while the Raiderettes went on to be runner-up.
“You look to certain checkpoints in the season to see if your performances are holding up to your competitors and with these two team scores tonight it really showed where our team is at.” said coach Elliott.
