Wayne 6, Mt.Ayr 0
Monday morning started the Raiderette softball team off on their second week of games, where they played Wayne at 9:00 sharp.
The Raiderettes faced off against the long-time rival with both teams coming off state tournament apparances.
The Falcons put up three runs in the top of the fifth inning, no runs in the sixth inning, and three more in the seventh inning to make the final score 6-0.
The Raiderettes stood neck and neck with the Falcons, making great defensive plays and making good contact with the ball on offense, but it ultimately wouldn’t be enough to make it out on top of the Falcons, who would later in the afternoon go on to beat Interstate 35 to win the tournament.
The Raiderettes will see Wayne again next Tuesday at home to determine who will stand higher in the Pride of Iowa Conference.
Centerville 3, Mt. Ayr 0
The Raiderettes played two games on Memorial Day, with their second one being against the Centerville Redettes.
The Redettes put one run on the board in the first inning, with two more to follow in the third after a homerun scored the batter and an extra base runner to put them up 3-0, the final score of the ballgame.
Sophomore Jaxy Knight would come back to play this game after having foot surgery back in January where she suffered from an injury in basketball season.
Knight had a few thoughts after her first game back. “It feels great, I’m so happy to be active again,” said Knight, “I was out for all of track season which was definately a setback but it was not going to stop me from being on the field this summer.”
Knight went on to have a great first game where she assumed her prior position of shortstop.
