The Mount Ayr cross-country teams traveled to Stuart last Thursday for the second of two meets they ran at last week.
Two days after running at the Clarke Invitational, Mount Ayr ran at the West Central Valley Invitational in Stuart.
Both teams will be back in action this week, running at the Centerville Big Red Invitational on October 3.
At Stuart, Braylon Greenwell led three Raider finishers with a top-25 finish. Greenwell placed 23rd in 22:21 to lead the way for the trio of Mount Ayr runners. Samuel Hudson placed 46th and Carter Levine 59th at the meet.
Alex Davis and Daniel Schoening from Ankeny Christian tied for the overall win in the boy’s race, both finishing in a time of 18:31.20. Ankeny Christian won the meet with a team score of 24 while Van Meter was second with 38 points.
On the girl’s side, Anne Newton placed in the top-10 with an eighth-place finish in 24:21. Aubree Clark was 22nd in 26:49 followed by Kacie Larson 24th in 26:55, and Ava England 25th in 27:21.
Other Mount Ayr finishers were Ashlyn Byer 28th and MaKel Jones 40th.
For the second straight meet, the Raiderettes ran against Van Meter. Van Meter won the team title for the second straight meet with 24 points. Woodward-Grander was second with 58 points. Mount Ayr was third with 91 team points. Eva Flehner from Woodward-Granger won the meet in a time of 20:25.
On Tuesday, September 26, Mount Ayr traveled to Osceola to run at the Clarke cross-country invitational. There, the Raiderette girls placed fifth out of seven scoring teams.
On the boy’s side, the Mount Ayr Raiders didn’t have enough to score as a team but competed hard.
On the boy’s side, Chariton won the meet with 21 points followed by Davis County with 71 and Van Meter with 94 points. Austin VanderWerf from Interstate-35 won the race in a time of 24:22.
Braylon Greenwell was the top Mount Ayr finisher with a 61st place finish in 23:27. Other Mount Ayr finishers were Samuel Hudson 71st and Carter Levine 91st.
On the girl’s side, the Raiderettes placed fifth with a team score of 115. Van Meter, ranked No. 3 in Class 1A, won the meet with 23 points. Van Meter’s Emma McCoy, Laura Streck, and Brooklyn Fryar went 1-2-3 in the individual race. Mount Ayr was led by Anne Newton who placed 16th in a time of 24:22. The Raiderettes had a pack of finishers next with Auburee Clark 32nd, Ava England 33rd, Kacie Larsen 35th, and Ashlyn Byer 36th. Other Mount Ayr finishers were MaKel Jones 48th and Lillian Fuller 61st.
