Iowa Secretary of State Paul Pate and Hy-Vee stores are joining forces to honor Iowa’s military members during Hy-Vee Homefront, Hy-Vee’s annual Veterans Day breakfast.
Breakfast for Veterans
Veterans and active military members can enjoy a free dine-in breakfast at the Mount Ayr American Legion building, November 10, 2023, from 6 – 10 a.m. Hy-Vee will also be circulating the Iowa Secretary of State’s “Honor A Veteran” postcards, encouraging Iowans to honor a loved one who has served our country.
Mount Ayr Veterans Day Assembly
The public is invited to honor area veterans at the Mount Ayr Community School Veterans Day Assembly which will be held at 10 a.m. in the high school gymnasium.
Diagonal Veterans Celebration
Diagonal Community School is also hosting a Veterans Day celebration on Friday, November 10 at 2:00 p.m. in the Diagonal gymnasium. Veterans and family are invited to attend.
Veterans Dinner
Local veterans and their spouse or guest can also enjoy dinner at the Mount Ayr American Legion building on Saturday, November 11 from 4-7:00 p.m. free of charge. Other guests are welcome, the meal will be available as a free-will offering.
Holiday Greetings for Veterans
The Ringgold County Veteran’s Affairs office is putting together holiday boxes for area veterans residing in a Mount Ayr nursing home/assisted living apartment.
Roughly 25 boxes are being put together, and donated items like fleece throw blankets, lotion, snacks, fuzzy socks, and cards thanking them for their service, and wishing them happy holidays are welcome.
Donations can be delivered to the Ringgold County Veteran’s Affairs office Tuesday – Thursday between 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. at the courthouse.

Parents can also stop in to the Ringgold County Veteran’s Affairs office and pick up a picture to color.
