The junior varsity girl’s basketball team improved to 2-0 last week with a win over Clarke in Osceola, 35-25. The win came after their season-opening win at Lamoni 51-18 on November 21.
Mount Ayr traveled to Lamoni on Tuesday, November 21 for their season opener. The Raiderettes won 51-18.
Mount Ayr led 14-6 after the first quarter and used a 16-3 run in the second quarter to take a 30-9 halftime lead. The Raiders outscored Lamoni 21-9 in the second half.
Kensie Barnes led in scoring with 14 points, 3 rebounds, and 2 steals. MaKel Jones scored nine points and had five steals. Jaylee Shaffer added eight points, three assists, and three steals.
Mount Ayr made 23 field goals in the game. Mount Ayr made three three-pointers in the game. Jaylee Shaffer made two and MaKel Jones made one three-pointer in the game.
In their second game, the junior varsity Raiderettes beat Clarke on Monday, November 27 by ten points, 35-25. The win set their record at 2-0.
Mount Ayr trailed 7-5 after the first quarter but used an 18-8 run in the second quarter to take the lead at halftime, 23-15.
The Raiderettes would outscore the Indians 12-10 in the second half to secure the win. Kensie Barnes led with six points and eight rebounds. MaKel Jones and Keely Wasteney each chipped in five points. MaKel Jones and Jaylee Shaffer each made a three-pointer in the game.
