The opening week for the Raiders wrestling team continued last Saturday when Mount Ayr traveled to Nodaway Valley High School for the annual Coach Riley Wrestling Invitational. The event is named after the longtime Wolverine coach.

There, Knoxville won the invite with a team score of 208 points, the only team to top 200 points. Six teams in all captured at least 100 points. Central Decatur was one of them with a sixth-place finish with 120 points. Nodaway Valley was second with 197 and Pleasantville third with 179.5 points. Mount Ayr placed 11th with 46 team points.
Mount Ayr had one champion at the meet. That weight class win came from Brock Shaha at 120. Shaha had a bye in the quarterfinals to reach the semifinals. In the semifinals, Shaha pinned Kason Calhoun from CAM in 5:23 to reach the finals. In the finals, Shaha would pin Keyin Steeve, a state qualifier last year and 4-1, in 1:03 to capture the weight class.
Also finishing as a place winner were Conlee Stark 7th at 150 and Tate Schaefer at 132, Ty Noble at 144 each placing 8th at their respective weight classes. Also in action were Jonathan Morales at 285, Bracken Collier at 175, and Nathan Mederos at 138.

Mount Ayr will be back on the mat this Saturday at the Dan Christensen Invitational at Central Decatur. The Raiders will wrestle in a POI double dual on Thursday, December 14 with Nodaway Valley, East Union, and Wayne. Coach Riley Invitational
