Christmas food boxes and meals

Local families in need of Christmas food
One hundred and 80 Ringgold County families will need help putting a Christmas dinner on the table this year. To help a local family have a good Christmas, you can purchase a $10 Christmas box when you check out at the Mount Ayr Hy-Vee. Matura Neighborhood Center will add a turkey or a ham and distribute the boxes.

Monetary donations are also appreciated. The Center is located at 306 S. Garfield in Mount Ayr. For more information call Director Joana Putvain at 641-464-2401 during Center hours, Monday through Thursday 8 to 4 p.m.

Christmas dinner delivery
Two local businesses are partnering to spread some joy and kindness in the community this Christmas, sharing their love of feeding people. The Wagon Wheel Cafe and Diamond R Grill are planning to serve Christmas dinner to those home alone or couples that aren’t able to prepare their own meal. They will deliver a full meal between 10:30 a.m. and 12 noon on Christmas day.

They encourage people to think about their neighbors, family members, church family or others who would be blessed by a special meal including sliced brisket, ham balls, loaded mashed potatoes, green beans, roll, salad and dessert.

Help delivering meals is also appreciated as they are planning to cover all of Ringgold County. Donations will be accepted to help cover the cost of the food as well.

Sign up is requested prior to December 22 so preparations can be made.
If you know of someone who would benefit from a Christmas meal, you can contact Kelly (Richards) Walsh at 515-493-6005 or Donetta Phelps at 641-414-5283.
