The season resumed last week for the Mount Ayr girl’s basketball middle school team.
The squads played a pair of Pride of Iowa Conference teams in Lenox and Wayne.
Last Tuesday, January 16, Mount Ayr played Lenox.
The first game started great with intense defense and good rebounding. The third quarter was their undoing as Lenox outscored Mount Ayr 10-1.
Trying to come back, Mount Ayr tried full-court pressure to generate some offense. Lenox however, handled the pressure and jumped ahead by 15 in the fourth before settling for a 25-13 win.
Mount Ayr had two scorers with Emma Reynolds leading with 11 and Sophia West chipped in two points.
The second game saw Mount Ayr beat Lenox 17-14.
The Raiderettes outscored the Tigers six to two in the final quarter to secure the win.
Mount Ayr had five scorers in the game. McKinley Vanderflught, Talyn Greene, and Mackenzie Jackson led with each scoring four points. Bralyn Martin scored three points and Teyanna Combs scored two points.
Last Thursday, the Raiderettes traveled to Wayne.
The Raiderettes outscore Wayne 16-12 in the second half for a ten-point, 32-22 win.
Emma Reynolds led Mount Ayr in scoring with 24 points. Sophia West scored four, Mackenzie Jackson two points, and Claire Routh and Abbie Case one point.
In the second game, Mount Ayr won 19-7. Five Mount Ayr players scored in the game. Tayln Greene led with six points while Teyanna Combs and Mackenzie Jackson each had four points. Bralyn Martin scored three points and Irais Trujillo had two.
