Raiderette JV team collects two wins
The Mount Ayr junior varsity girl’s basketball team finally returned to the court with games recently.
The Raiderttes played their first game back from Christmas break on January 19 after seeing five scheduled JV games canceled or postponed due to weather or low numbers.
Mount Ayr won two road games, at Lenox 42-21 and SW Valley 30-13. The team has won three straight JV games with the wins.
Mount Ayr won at Lenox on January 19, 42-21. The Raiderettes led 10-9 after the first quarter, and used a 15-4 second-quarter run to take control of the game, 25-13 at halftime.
An 11-4 run in the third quarter put the game out of reach at 36-17 going to the final quarter.
Kensie Barnes led Mount Ayr in scoring with 12 points and 9 rebounds. Tatum Friedrich added 9 points and 4 rebounds. Abby Larson scored 7 points with 9 rebounds, 4 assists, and 2 steals. Adalynn Dredge and Keely Wasteney each scored 2 points.
Mount Ayr had 34 rebounds, ten assists, and shot 6-for-18 from the free throw line.
Mount Ayr held SW Valley to 13 points in a 30-13 win at Corning on January 25. Mount Ayr led after each quarter including 14-7 at halftime and 23-10 going to the fourth quarter.
The Raiders record improved to 6-1 with the win.
