Mount Ayr sophomore Aubree Shields nearly captured the school record in the high jump event, after her performance at the Northwest Missouri State indoor meet last Saturday.
Shields was the runner-up in the high jump with a best jump of 5-feet, 3 inches. The school record is 5-5, but Shields could not reach that height.
Shields’ finish was the top Mount Ayr placewinner. The Raiderettes placed 16th as a team out of 20 scoring teams. Most of the field of 20 teams were made up of much larger schools from Missouri, Iowa, and Nebraska. Two Iowa schools placed sixth and seventh in Tri-Center and Treynor. Other Iowa schools at the meet were Atlantic, Clarke, Nodaway Valley, Creston, and Underwood.
The Raiderettes were led individually by two 24th place finishes. Jaxy Knight was 24th in the 60-meter dash in 8.63 while Addison Doolittle was 24th in the 800-meter run in 3:06.18. Ashlyn Murphy was right on the cusp of a top-25 finish, placing 28th in the 400-meter dash in 1:07.56.
The best finish by the Raiderettes in a relay was its top 4X400-meter relay team with an 11th place finish.
The team of Aubree Clark, Tatum Friedrich, Ashlyn Murphy, and Aubree Shields finished in a time of 4:34.29.
Mount Ayr’s distance medley relay also almost reached the top-10 with a 13th place finish. The team of Ava England, Brittlyn Nickle, Kacie Larson, and Addison Doolittle finished the race in a time of 16:10.33.
In other field events, Jalyn Akers placed 19th, Hayden Ruggles 22nd, and Adley Dredge 23rd in the shot put.
Mount Ayr will be back in action on Tuesday, March 26th for their season opening outdoor meet. The Raiderettes will travel to Earlham, for the Earlham Early-Bird meet. The Raiderette then will have two meets the following week at Panorama on April 2 and at Centerville on April 4.
