Mount Ayr freshman Dyson Thompson had a big night at the Earlham Co-ed Meet last Thursday.
The meet was the first outdoor meet for the Raiders this season.
Thompson won the 400-meter dash and set a new Mount Ayr freshman record in the long jump. Thompson won the 400-meter dash in a speedy time of 54.07. Teammate Tate Dugan just missed on a top-5 finish, placing 6th in 55.61. Thompson also collected a third-place finish in the long jump with a jump of 19-feet, 8.75 inches. That is the new school record for a freshman in the event.
“On the boys side, top-5 field event performer Dyson Thompson set a new MACHS freshman record with his 3rd place finish in the long jump,” said Mount Ayr head coach Brad Elliott. Elliott also said that there were other top-5 performers at the meet.
“Leading off top-5 performances for the on-track events was the 800 medley relay of Dugan, Victor, Ruggles and Walter. The Shuttle Hurdle Relay team of Ruggles, Weehler, Hale and Dugan also placed 5th. The 1600 medley relay of Ruggles, Victor, Walter & Trujillo was runner-up on the night.
In the 200-meter Preston Fleharty placed 4th. Adan Trujillo was 5th in the 400 hurdles. The boys 4×100 Relay team of Fleharty, Ruggles, Thompson and Dugan ran a #4 all-time MACHS time in their season debut with a 2nd place finish. The 4×400 team of Hill, Walter, Hale and Trujillo finished off the night with a 4th place finish,” said Elliott.
Other Raiders with top-10 finishes were Brayon Greenwell with a seventh-place finish in the 3,200-meter run; Fleharty with a sixth-place finish in the 100-meter dash in 11.83; Brayden Hale with an eighth-place finish in the 110-meter high hurdles in 18.80; Teagan Hill with a ninth place finish in the 800-meter run in 2:21.78; and Evan Weehler with a tenth place finish in the 200-meter dash in 27.0.
The Raiders also had one other relay place in the top-10 at the meet. The Raiders 4X800-meter relay team of Michael Adkisson, Jeremiah Gilliland, Tegan Hill, and Aidan Murphy was eighth in a time of 9:54.47.
The Raiders had other top-10-place winners in the field events. Tucker Knox in the shot put, Adan Trujillo in the high jump, and Colton Dredge in the discus, all had seventh-place finishes. Kash Wasteney was eighth in the shot put and Tucker Knox and Rowan Sackett were tenth in the discus and shot put events.
Mount Ayr was to compete at the Panorama Panther Relays on Tuesday, April 2. The Raiders will be back on the track Thursday when they run in Centerville at the Big Red Relays.
