What a start for the Mount Ayr girl’s golf team.
The Raiderettes saw meet action for the first time this season on Thursday, April 4 on their home course and won the triangular meet going away.
The meet featured a trio of Pride of Iowa Conference schools as Martensdale-St. Mary’s and SE Warren joined Mount Ayr at the meet.
There, Mount Ayr scored a team-low 210 points to claim the meet. Martensdale-St. Mary’s was second with 227 and SE Warren third with 247.
Mount Ayr’s Jaylee Shaffer was the medalist at the meet, shooting a nine-hole score of 43. Shaffer shot par on three holes and shot one-over par on four others to turn in a nice scorecard.
Par for the course is 35.
The runner-up medalist was Abigail White from Martensdale-St. Mary’s who shot a score of 51. White shot par on two holes and one over on another to secure the runner-up spot. The Blue Devils came into the meet as the most seasoned team having four players out of their six back from last year.
Mount Ayr’s next scores came from two returning players Olivia Huntington and Kamryn Willis with scores of 52 and 57. Huntington shot par on one hole and one-over par on four others. Willis shot one over par twice at the meet. Other Mount Ayr scores were Alana Doolittle 58 and Izzy Gilbertson 63.
Mount Ayr continued its home start to the season, playing two early week meets at home on Monday and Tuesday. Monday, Mount Ayr hosted Martensdale-St. Mary’s and SE Warren again, as well as Nodaway Valley. On Tuesday, Mount Ayr had a triangular with Wayne and Melcher-Dallas. The Raiderettes will be back on the golf links on Thursday when they travel to Shenandoah for their first invitational of the season. Seventeen teams will be there including POI schools East Union, Nodaway Valley, and SW Valley.
