Raiderettes compete at 11-team Van Meter meet

The Mount Ayr girl’s track and field team traveled to Van Meter on Thursday, April 25 for a large, 11-team meet.
There, the Raiderettes placed 11th with a team score of 42 points. Fellow POI schools Central Decatur and Martensdale-St. Mary’s also was among the 11-team field.
Van Meter won the meet with a team score of 146 points. They were the only team that scored over 100 team points. Ballard was the runner-up team with 86 points and Earlham was third with 70 team points.
The Raiderettes claimed one win at the meet, a first-place finish in the high jump for Aubree Shields.
Shields had a best jump of 5-feet, 2 inches.
Hayden Ruggles claimed a pair of top-10 finishes, placing third in the shot put with a best throw of 31-feet, 1-inch. Ruggles also placed sixth in the discus with a best throw of 81-feet, 7.5 inches. Jalyn Akers placed ninth in the shot put and 10th in the discus. Dannie Stewart added a 10th-place finish in the long jump.
In individual events, Mount Ayr had a pair of top-10 finishers. Abby Eaton placed seventh in the 400-meter dash in 1:12.20 while Addison Doolittle was eighth in the 1,500-meter run in 5:50.19.
All seven of the Raiderettes relay entries finished in the top-10. The top Mount Ayr finish came from its 4×800-meter relay team. The quartet of Anne Newton, Aubree Clark, Ashlyn Murphy, and Aubree Shields were runners-up in a time of 4:24.99.
The Raiderettes’ next best relay finishes came from sixth place finishes in the shuttle hurdle relay, the 4×800-meter relay, and the 4×100-meter relay events.
