Mount Ayr senior Ryce Reynolds captured a runner-up finish in the 400-meter hurdle event at last week’s Drake Relays.
Reynolds competed in three events at the meet with the best finish coming from the 400-meter hurdles.
Reynolds battled in the 400-meter hurdles finishing second in a time of 52.09. That time is a new season best for him. Reynolds barely got second as the winner of the event, Aidan Jacobsen from Iowa City West won in a time of 52.03.
The two were the top-2 finishers in the second heat of the event. Lenox’s Gabe Funk was also in the heat and placed fourth overall in 52.76.
Reynolds placed sixth in the 400-meter dash in 48.43 and added a 14th-place finish in the 800-meter run in 1:58.71. His 400-meter dash time was a new season best. Johannes Jackson from Cedar Rapids Prairie won the event in 47.67. Reynolds was fifth in the second heat of the 400-meter dash. Quentin Nauman from Western Dubuque won the 800-meter run in 1:52.22.
The Raiders also had a relay event at the meet. The team of Garrett Walter, Jackson Ruggles, Trevin Victor, and Preston Fleharty were 89th in the prelims in a time of 45.40.
That time was the fastest the quartet has been as a group this year. Their previous best time was 46.25. The team of Fleharty, Ruggles, Dyson Thompson, and Tate Dugan held the season-best time in the event at 44.60.
