Raiders win POI Boy’s Golf Title
The Mount Ayr boy’s golf team won the 2024 Pride of Iowa Conference title last week on Tuesday, April 30. The meet was held at Lakeshore Golf And Country Club.
There, the Raiders won the conference title, holding off Nodaway Valley by one stroke. The Raiders scored 332 team points while the Wolverines had 333. East Union placed third with 345 points and SE Warren was fourth with 363 points.
Zayne Eslinger from East Union was the medalist with a score of 77 which included a 37 on the first nine holes and a 40 on the second nine.
Mount Ayr’s Jaxon Greene was the runner-up medalist with a score of 79 which included a score of 38 on the first nine and 41 on the second nine holes.
Greene shot par on four of the first nine holes. Greene shot par on five of the second nine holes including making par on the first three holes on the second nine.
The Raiders had two other scores in the top-10 scores. Tanner Streit placed fourth with a score of 82, shaving four strokes off his first nine-hole score (43) on his second nine-hole score (39). Dylan Graham had a score of 83 with scores of 41 and 42 for the 18-hole meet. Other Mount Ayr scores were Avery Wolfe 88 in 13th, Louden Main 89 in 17th, and Trevin Victor 22nd with a score of 93.
Mount Ayr played at a quad meet on Monday, May 6. Teams there were Lenox, Bedford, and Sidney. The Raiders will host a Class 1A sectional meet on May 8 at 9 a.m. Teams coming to the meet are Bedford, CAM, East Union, Griswold, Lamoni, Lenox, and Mormon Trail.

Shaffer medalist, Raiderettes win POI
The Mount Ayr Raiderettes had a great day at the Pride of Iowa Conference meet last Wednesday, May 1.
There, led by a medalist finish by Jaylee Shaffer, Mount Ayr won the 2024 conference title.
The Raiderettes won the meet with a team-low score of 419 points. Martensdale-St. Mary’s was a distant second with 453 points.
Jaylee Shaffer had a score of 37 in the first nine holes. Shaffer then shot a score of 45 in the second nine-hole.
Mount Ayr had two other top-10 finishers. Olivia Huntington placed seventh with a score of 105 with scores of 51 and 54. Kammi Willis placed 10th with a score of 106. Willis had a first nine-hole score of 57 and a second-night score of 49.
Other Mount Ayr scores were Alana Doolittle 126 in 19th place, and Izzy Gilberston 25th with a score of 138. Doolittle shot a first nine score of 70 and a second-nine score of 56. Gilbertson had a first-nine score of 76 and a second nine score of 62.
The Raiderettes played at home on Monday, May 3 in a meet with Bedford, Lenox, and Sidney. The Raiderettes will be in action on May 10 at a Class 1A sectional meet. Teams at the meet are AC/GC, Bedford, CAM, East Union, Griswold, Lamoni, Lenox, and SW Valley.
