The Mount Ayr boy’s track team gave the home fans one more chance to cheer them on last Thursday when the program hosted a Class 1A state qualifying meet with trips to the state meet this week on the line.
There were 14 teams at the meet with six from the Pride of Iowa Conference.
There, the Raiders would best the field of 14 teams and win the meet with 134 team points. Wayne was the runner-up with 121 points while SE Warren was third with 78 points and Stanton fourth with 71 points.
The Raiders qualified for state in six events, three individual and three relays. Senior Ryce Reynolds qualified for the 200-meter and 400-meter dash events as well as the 400-meter hurdles. He also will anchor the sprint medley relay.

With the four state events qualified for Reynolds, he joins former Raider Kyle Dolecheck as the only two Raiders in program history to qualify 16 career events for state.
The Raiders also qualified in the 4×400-meter and distance medley relay events.
Reynolds won three individual events to reach state as an automatic qualifier in the events. Reynolds won the 200-meter dash in 22.49, the 400-meter dash in 50.15, and the 400-meter hurdles in 54.42.
Dalton Barnes had a season-best time in the 110-meter high hurdles and placed third in 16.65. Adan Trujillo placed fourth in the 800-meter run in 2:13.26, and Trevin Victor had a season-best time with his fourth-place finish in the 100-meter dash in 12.22.
A handful of Raiders collected season-best times in individual events. They were Rowan Sackett in the 100-meter dash, Tegan Hill in the 400-meter dash, Brock Shaha in the 800-meter run, Jeremiah Gilliland in the 1,600-meter run, Brayden Hale in the 110-meter high hurdles, and Evan Weehler in the 400-meter hurdles.
The Raiders won the four relay events that they are taking to state.
The Raiders won the sprint medley relay with a season-best time of 1:33.99 with the team of Jackson Ruggles, Tate Dugan, Preston Fleharty, and Ryce Reynolds. The Raiders distance medley relay team of Garrett Walter, Preston Fleharty, Jackson Ruggles, and Adan Trujillo won the event in a time of 3:43.25. The Raiders also won the 4×400-meter relay event with the team of Preston Fleharty, Tegan Hill, Adan Trujillo, and Jackson Ruggles in a time of 3:36.74.
The Raiders were second in the 4×100 with the team of Garrett Walter, Jackson Ruggles, Trevin Victor, and Tate Dugan in 47.23. The Raiders were also runners-up in the shuttle hurdle relay with the team of Brayden Hale, Evan Weehler, Adan Trujillo, and Dalton Barnes in 1:08.71. Mount Ayr added a third-place finish in the 4×200-meter relay and a fifth-place finish in the 4×800-meter relay.
In field events, Trevin Victor had a season best jump in the long jump event. Victor placed fifth with the best jump of 18-feet, 5 inches. Colton Dredge and Tucker Knox went sixth and seventh in the discus with best throws of 123-06 and 118-02.
The 2024 state track and field meet is this Thursday through Saturday. The 1A portion of the first two days’ events are in the morning. Saturday will be the final for all classes.
