The state meet is over in Class 1A and for Mount Ayr’s Jaylee Shaffer, it was a good one.
Shaffer cemented her place among the state’s best, shooting a score of 151 to place as the Class 1A runner-up at last week’s state golf meet in Marshalltown.
Shaffer was one of 78 individual golfers at the tournament.
On day one, Shaffer shot a score of 75 with a first nine-hole score of 38 and a second nine-hole score of 37.
Shaffer shot scores of a bogey on the first two holes and had a birdie on the third hole. The rest of the way, Shaffer had one bogey and shot par for five of the last six holes.
On the second nine-hole scores, Shaffer had par on five holes, three holes with a bogey, and another with a birdie.
On day two, Shaffer shot a first nine-hole score of 38 and a second nine-hole score of 38. Her second-day score totaled 76.
Shaffer shot par on five of the nine holes to start day two. She also had a birdie on the first hole on day two, as well as three holes with bogey scores. Shaffer ended the tournament with a good round. Shaffer shot par on seven of the nine holes with a bogey on one of the two last holes.
Taylor Phillips from New London was the state champion in Class 1A shooting seven over par score of 149 for the 72-hole meet. Phillips shot a score of 73 on the first day and 76 on the second day of the state meet.
Other area golfers from SW Iowa were Addison Brink from Riverside 26th with a 186, Joanna Reynolds of Griswold 30th with a 187, and Addy Boell from Glidden-Ralson 55th with a score of 207.
The Class 1A team champion was Easton Valley with a score of 711. BCLUW was the runner-up team with a score of 740 and Highland was third with a team score of 741.
