The 2024 IGHSAU postseason tournament begins this week.
The Mount Ayr Raiderette volleyball team entered the postseason on Monday, October 21 as winners of two of their last three matches.

Mount Ayr finished the regular season one match over the .500 mark with a 17-16 record. The Raiderettes were 6-4 in POI matches this year, including POI tournament match results.
The Raiderettes won two of the three matches they played at last week’s POI tournament securing the consolation match win over SE Warren in a five-set match.

The Raiderettes opened the 2024 Pride of Iowa Conference tournament on Monday, October 14 at Wayne in Corydon. There, the Raiderettes beat the Falcons 3-1 to advance. Mount Ayr lost the first set 26-24 to fall behind Wayne 1-0. Mount Ayr would rally and win the next three sets to win the match 3-1. Mount Ayr tied the match at 1-1 with a second-set win 25-22. The third set went to Mount Ayr by a score of 25-17 for a 2-1 match lead. Mount Ayr claimed the match, winning the fourth set 28-26 to win the match.

Mount Ayr had 156 attacks and 40 kills in the match. Aubree Shields led with 48 attacks and 18 kills. Breya Nickle added 9 kills and Ashlyn Murphy had 31 attacks. Jaylee Shaffer and Dannie Stewart had 20 and 17 assists. Jaxy Knight led in digs with 24 and Stewart added 18. Mount Ayr served 94-for-101 with 8 aces in the match. Jaxy Knight was 19-for-21 with two aces to lead Mount Ayr.

Mount Ayr played Class 1A No. 14 SW Valley in the first match on Tuesday, October 15. The matches for the second day of the tournament were held in Lenox. There, the Timberwolves beat Mount Ayr 3-0. SW Valley won the first set 25-11, the second by a score of 25-16, and swept Mount Ayr, winning the third set 25-15.

Mount Ayr had 66 attacks and 20 kills in the match led by Aubree Shields with 29 attacks and 8 kills. Jaylee Shaffer had 11 assists and Dannie Stewart had 7. Mount Ayr had 43 digs led by Jaxy Knight with 9. As a team, Mount Ayr served 39-for-44 with 2 aces. Stewart led, going 9-for-10.

Against SE Warren, the Raiderettes knocked of the 24-win Warhawks 3-2. Mount Ayr won the first set 25-19 to take a 1-0 match lead and then took a commanding 2-0 match lead, winning the second set 26-24. SE Warren rallied, winning the third set 25-19 and the fourth set 27-25 to tie the match at 2-2. In the fifth and deciding set, Mount Ayr won a close set, 15-13 to claim the match.

 

Mount Ayr had 152 attacks in the match with 60 kills. Aubree Shields led three Raiderettes with double-digit kill totals with 20 in the match. Izzy Gilbertson and Ashlyn Murphy each had 12 kills. Jaylee Shaffer had a team-high 23 assists. Defensively, Mount Ayr had 104 digs in the match. Jaxy Knight led with 26 while Aubree Shields had 24. As a team, Mount Ayr served 95-for-108 with ten aces. Jaxy Knight led going 21-for-24 with four aces and Dannie Stewart was 16-for-20 with two aces.

The Raiderettes were to play Lenox at Lenox on Monday, October 21 in the first round of postseason play. The two teams are familiar with each other. Lenox has a record of 22-15 going into the match. Offensively, Lenox is led by Sadie Cox with 412 kills and Izzy Curtis with 194 kills. Zoe Reed has a team-high 271 assists and is second on the team in digs with 227. Cox leads in digs with 310.
