A conference rival that Mount Ayr couldn’t get past.
The Lenox Tigers ended the Raiderettes season on Monday, October 21 when the two longtime Pride of Iowa Conference rivals met in the first round of the Class 1A Region 6 tournament.
There, the Tigers rallied from down 1-0 to win the final three sets to claim the match 3-1 and advance along the postseason tournament trail.
The Raiderettes finish the season with a 17-17 record. The Tigers improved to 23-15.
Mount Ayr and Lenox met twice this season with Mount Ayr winning 2-1 at the Mount Ayr tournament back on August 27 and Lenox winning 2-0 in a RVC Triangular at Martensdale-St. Mary’s almost a month later on September 24.
Mount Ayr came into the match after two of three matches in the POI tournament and winners of five of their last six matches.

The Raiders jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the match, winning the first set 25-22. Lenox would tie the match at 1-1, winning the second set 25-20.
The Tigers won their second straight set in the third, winning 25-19 to take a 2-1 match lead. The Tigers put the match away in the fourth set, winning 25-21 to claim the match.
Mount Ayr had a good hitting night with 121 attack attempts with 38 kills. Aubree Shields led with 47 attacks and 15 kills. Izzy Gilbertson had 21 attacks and 7 kills, Breya Nickle had 20 attacks and 6 kills, and Ashlyn Murphy added 18 attacks and 9 kills. Jaylee Shaffer led in assists with 22 while Dannie Stewart added 12.
Defensively, Mount Ayr was led by four players with double digit totals with Aubree Shields leading with 17. Mount Ayr served 78-for-82 with 12 aces. Nickle led, going 21-for-21 with two aces.
Lenox also had a good hitting night, totaling 124 attacks and 50 kills. Sadie Cox led with 54 attacks and 28 kills. Delaney Funk had 19 assists and Zoe Reed 18.
Cox led in digs with 14 and Danielle Robinson led in serving going 17-for-21 with two aces.
The Raiderettes will graduate eight off of their roster this season. They are Jaxy Knight, Koda Henle, Breya Nickle, Anna Greenland, Kamryn Willis, Ashlyn Murphy, Kyleigh Conklin, and Harper Whittington.
