17 Raiders tabbed for All-District honors

The Mount Ayr Raiders 2024 football season ended recently and after last week’s state semifinal loss by Madrid, the 2024 Class A District 6 awards were handed out. The district released their honors list for the 2024 season with their all-district selections. Mount Ayr had a staggering 17 combined selections on the three lists.
The Raiders had five first team offense picks, four first team defense picks, five second team picks and four honorable mention selections. Of the 17 honorees, eight return next year.
“We had a very tough district, both this year and last year,” said Mount Ayr head football coach Ryan Victor. “Madrid went to the dome, Mount Ayr and Lynnville-Sully were ranked at times, and Wayne and North Mahaska were solid,” said Victor.
Victor said that he was proud that his players put the work in to get honored.
“The awards to this many kids is a testament to the hard work the kids put in to get ready for this year, the hard work during the year, and their attitudes. It’s exciting and I am proud as a coach that they got awards for their ability to play the game,” said Victor.

Tyler Martin #14–First Team Defense
The Raiders had five players selected to the first team all-district team. They were senior Kash Wasteney at offensive line and senior Trevin Victor at utility. Also selected was junior quarterback Jackson Ruggles and running backs Dyson Thompson and Tate Dugan. Wasteney was on the Raiders offensive line that collected over 3,600 yards of total offense including 2,423 rushing yards with a 6.0-yard average and 32 rushing scores.
Ruggles was a dual threat both passing and running the football. Ruggles passed for 975 yards on 55 of 80 completions. He had ten touchdown passes against 2 interceptions. Rushing, Ruggles was second on the team with 541 yards on 88 carries with a 6.1-yard average with 11 touchdowns.
Dugan rushed for 336 yards on 68 carries with 4.9-ave. per rush with 5 touchdowns. Dugan also led the Raiders in rushing with 22 catches for 379 yards and 6 touchdowns.

Dyson Thompson #7–First Team Offense
Thompson led the Raiders in rushing with 993 yards on 136 carries with 8 touchdowns and a 7.3-yard per carry average. He also caught nine passes for 223 yards and two scores.
Victor was second on the team in receiving with 12 catches for 280 yards and a touchdown, Victor had 10 carries for 84 yards and a touchdown, and passed for 143 yards on 4-of-9 attempts with two touchdown passes.
The Raiders had four first team selections on defense.
Senior Dylan Graham got the Golden Award for the district. The Golden Award is given to a player that would have been a first team all-district selection but an injury keeps them out of most of the season.
Other first team selections were junior Bracken Collier at defensive line, senior Tyler Martin at linebacker, and Garret Walter at utility. Collier had 28.5 tackles, a sack, and 5.5 tackles for loss. Martin had 65.5 tackles to lead the Raiders with 1.5 sacks and 4.5 tackles for loss. Walter had 31 tackles and 3.5 sacks.
Second team picks for Mount Ayr were seniors Tucker Larson, Ethan Johns and Jaize Frost along with junior Rowan Sackett and Trace Knapp.
Larson was a defensive line pick after getting 10 tackles, 3 tackles for loss and a sack. Johns was on the Raiders offensive line that collected over 3,600 yards of total offense including 2,423 rushing yards with a 6.0-yard average and 32 rushing scores.
Knapp and Sackett were second team picks at linebacker. Sackett had 44 tackles and Knapp had 23.5 tackles.
Frost was a second team defensive line selection after he had 13.5 tackles, a sack, and two tackles for loss.
Three Raiders were honorable mention picks. They were senior Louden Main and freshmen Drayden Thompson and Isac Dugan.
Main caught two passes for 43 yards and a touchdown on offense and had 16.5 tackles and one interception with 25 return yards on defense.
Thompson had seven carries on offense and ten tackles on defense and one tackle for loss.
Dugan had five tackles on defense and caught one pass for 14 yards.
The Raiders were the runners-up in district 6 this year with a record of 5-1 in district play.
The Raiders were 7-3 overall and advanced to the second round of the Class A playoffs.
Mount Ayr won a 58-50 first round playoff game at home against Earlham before falling to state ranked AC/GC in the next round. Madrid won the district title this year while Mount Ayr, Lynnville-Sully, and Wayne made the playoffs. Mount Ayr and Madrid each won first round games while Madrid advanced to state.
