Lloyd James Bishop

Lloyd James Bishop was born at home in rural Elmo, Missouri on October 2, 1932, to Murrell “Casey” and Alverda “Verdie” (Horn) Bishop.  On April 26, 2025, Lloyd passed away peacefully with his loving family by his side.
Lloyd was raised on a farm in rural Coin, Iowa.  He attended country school near Bingham and later attended Coin High School, where he participated in sports and graduated in 1951.
On June 6, 1954, he married his high school sweetheart, Alma Thomas at the Coin United Methodist Church.  They had two daughters Julie Ann and Jacquelyn Kay.
He received his Bachelor’s of Education Degree from Northwest Missouri State College and master’s degree from the University of Missouri.
The Bishop family made their home in Diagonal, Iowa where Lloyd taught Business, Driver’s Education and directed high school plays.  He later served as acting Principal.  He always treasured the great memories he had of Diagonal.
The family moved to Farragut, Iowa in 1969.  Lloyd was the high school Guidance Counselor and then Principal at Farragut Community School.  He later served as Principal for South Page Community School.  His students were always very important to him.  After his retirement, Lloyd continued to substitute teach at Farragut.  He also taught Driver’s Education to multiple generations.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife Alma; parents Casey and Verdie Bishop; in-laws Gist and Audrey (Thompson) Thomas; nephew Kevin Thomas and wife Janice.
He loved his family, friends, home and neighbors.  He enjoyed mowing his lawn, meeting the coffee group at George Jay Drug, lunch at Lu & Al’s and dancing with his beloved Alma at the Shenandoah Elks Club.  He always enjoyed having breakfast at the Farragut Harbor Cafe along with good conversation.  Lloyd and Alma loved following grandchildren’s activities and visiting great-grandchildren.
His loving family includes daughters Julie Bishop Goergen of Farragut and Jacque Lashier and husband Dave of Shenandoah; grandchildren Jennifer Samuels and husband Todd and their children Tate and Tenley of Ames, Iowa and Jackson Lashier and wife Katie of Ankeny, Iowa.  All who have fun times to remember.  Also left to cherish his memory is his sister Helen M. Bishop of Shenandoah; in-laws Katy Martin and husband Norbert of Shenandoah and Dale “Buck” Thomas and wife Marian of Coin; nieces Pam McGargill and husband Jake of Imogene and Susan Murphy and husband Rob of Poplar Bluff, MO; nephew Brad Thomas and wife Melissa of Coin; other relatives and a host of friends.
Private family graveside services will be held at a later date in the Rose Hill Cemetery in Shenandoah.  Memorials may be directed to the Farragut Fire and Rescue Department and sent to Julie Goergen at PO Box 58 Farragut, IA 51639. Wabash Memorial Chapel in Shenandoah was honored to have been entrusted with the arrangements.
