The Mount Ayr Raiderette girl’s track team placed fifth at the Lenox Co-Ed meet on Monday, April 21.
There, the Raiderettes scored 80 team points. Riverside won the meet with a team score of 138, while Shenandoah was second with 94 points and Griswold third with 92 points.
The meet turned out to be the only meet of the week for Mount Ayr. A trip to the West Central Valley Relays on April 24 was canceled due to weather. The Raiderettes are back on the track this week starting at home on April 29 for the Chet Roed Relays. Two nights later, Mount Ayr will run at the Dave Tapps Invitational at Van Meter.
The Raiderettes won one event at the meet, and that came from distance runner Addison Doolittle. Doolittle would win the open 3,000-meter run in a new season-best time of 11:58.54. She was also the runner-up in the 800-meter run in 2:39.74.
Emma Reynolds and Aubree Shields went second and fourth in the 400-meter dash. Reynolds’ time was 1:01.59 while Shields’ time was 1:02.37. Kate Newton captured a top-5 finish in the 800-meter run in 2:47.52. MaKel Jones would add a season-best time for Mount Ayr in the 400-meter hurdles, placing sixth in a time of 1:18.01.
The Raiderettes finished in the top-5 for five of the six relay events they were entered in. Two relay finishes set new best times. The Raiderettes were runners-up in the 4X800-meter relay with the team of Tatum Friedrich, Ryley Greenwell, Ava England, and Kate Newton in a time of 11:14.54. Mount Ayr’s 4X400-meter relay team of Friedrich, Ashlyn Murphy, Aubree Shields, and Emma Reynolds were second in a new season best time of 4:14.70.
Mount Ayr also set a new season best time in the sprint medley relay with the team of Reynolds, Shields, Brittlyn Nickle and Jaxy Knight in a time of 2:01.92. Mount Ayr added fifth-place finishes in both the 4X100 and the distance medley relay.
MaKel Jones had the top finish in the field events. Jones placed fourth in the long jump with a best jump of 14-feet, 7 inches. Emily Knox would set a new season best throw distance in the shot put event with a distance of 32-feet, 5.25 inches to place sixth. Jalyn Akers was ninth in the discus, and Koda Henle was ninth in the shot put and 11th in the discus.
