Aubree Shields at the Kansas Relays in Lawrence, KS on Saturday, April 19
Mount Ayr junior Aubree Shields competed at the Drake Relays last week in Des Moines. Shields, one of the top high jumpers in the state, joined the rest of the field of top jumpers among all classes this year.
Shields would tie for 11th at Drake with a best jump of 5-feet, 2 inches. Shields tied with Elle Lonegran from Clinton and Melanie Chanthapangna from Storm Lake. The trio cleared the first 5-2 height, but not one of the three could clear 5-4.
ADM senior London Warmuth won the girl’s high school event with a top jump of 5-feet 7 inches. Three jumpers cleared 5-6, they were Warmuth, Ema Roberts from HLV (Victor), and Rachel Schany from Emmetsburg.
Shields has had a great spring, setting a season-best jump of 5-feet, 5 inches at the Kansas Relays on April 17. Prior to that, she had set a season-best jump of 5-feet, 4 inches at the Raiderettes’ meet in early April at Panorama.
Shields currently sits at third in Class 1A for high jumpers out of 135 1A jumpers this year. Roberts, a senior, from HLV is first, and junior Kennedy Brant from Gladbrook-Reinbeck is second, only an inch ahead of Shields best height of 5-5.
Shields competed in the High Jump at the 2025 Kansas Relays in Lawrence, KS on Saturday, April 19. Shields placed 4th overall and her jump of 5-05 tied her personal best.
